MAYWEATHER HAS TO APPEAR BEFORE NEVADA COMMISSION TO SECURE LICENSE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Jan 2012  Floyd Mayweather Jr will have to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission to secure a license for his May 5 fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. NSAC executive director Keith Kizer informed the Manila Standard that under its rules ?The Commission may deny an application for a license or grant a limited, restricted or conditional license for any cause deemed sufficient by the Commission.? At the same time Kizer quoted the NSAC rules which states that ?an application for a license constitutes a request for a determination of the applicant?s general suitability, character, integrity and ability to participate or engage in, or be associated with contests or exhibitions of unarmed combat. Under its provisions ?the burden of proof is on the applicant to establish to the satisfaction of the Commission that the applicant is qualified to receive a license.? At the same time it was noted that an applicant accepts ?the risk of adverse public notice, embarrassment, criticism, financial loss or other action with respect to the application and expressly waives any claims for damages.? Having been granted a reprieve by Judge Melissa Saragosa so he would begin serving his 90-day prison sentence on June 1 instead of January 6 which helped Mayweather proceed with a planned May 5 fight at the MGM Grand, it's almost certain that the Nevada State Athletic Commission will grant him a license. However, there are those who have pointed out that the Nevada Comission refused to license Antonio Margarito for a fight against Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand even though Margarito hadn?t been charged or convicted of a crime or misdemeanor after he was discovered trying to use illegal hand-wraps for his fight against Shane Mosley. The result was that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum took the fight to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas which caused Las Vegas to lose a lot of money considering that Pacquiao fights bring in a windfall for Vegas.
