PACQUIAO SPARRING PARTNER BELTRAN VICTIM OF ANOTHER BAD DECISION
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Jan 2012
Manny Pacquiao?s longtime sparring partner Raymundo Beltran has been a victim of what apparently was another bad decision against him and one that favored a Golden Boy Promotions fighter in a fight card promoted by the company of Oscar De La Hoya at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
Fight News reported that Beltran ?arguably did enough to win and was furious about the one-sided scoring? that protected the unbeaten record of lightweight prospect Luis Ramos Jr who improved to 21-0 with 9 knockouts.
The 30 year old Beltran dropped to 25-6 with 17 knockouts after suffering back-to-back defeats both of which were regarded as bad decisions.
Ramos overcame a cut in round three and sustained pressure from Beltran but still got the decision from judges James Jen-Kin 97-93, Daniel Sandoval 97-93 and Fritz Werner 96-94.
Fight News scored the fight for Beltran 96-94.
Ramos conceded he felt ?a little nervous about the decision because I knew it was a tough fight. Beltran was a tough fighter with a great record but I proved I could hang in there and take punches.?
Respected boxing writer Steve Kim in an article published before the Ramos fight said Beltran lost by a unanimous decision to undefeated Sharif Bogere (19-0, 12 KO's) in Primm, Nevada on the same ?ShoBox? series last May 13. The judges scores were 97-93 and 96-94 (twice) ? in a fight many observers believed he (Beltran? deserved to win. He also had a knockdown that was missed by referee Robert Byrd. It was a close fight but Bogere was the ?house fighter? on this occasion which mean that any benefit of the doubt would go in his direction.? Kim added, ?the same rules will most likely apply in this instance? against Ramos. He was right.
