ARCE WINS GRUDGE REMATCH OVER ANGKOTA TO GRAB WBO BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Nov 2011

Mexican warrior Jorge ?Travieso? Arce has scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Indonesia?s Angky Angota to win the WBO bantamweight title relinquished by WBC/WBO 118 pound champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire who has moved up to super bantamweight and is likely to face Wilfredo Vazquez Jr for the title vacated by Arce next February.
Arce won the super bantamweight title with a stunning 12th round TKO over Vazquez Jr last ay 7 and after one successful title defense against Simphiwe Nongqayi over whom he scored a 4th round TKO last September 24, Arce decided to drop down to bantamweight to fight Angkota for the vacant WBO title.
With the win Arce who improved his record to 59-6-2 with 45 knockouts won a record fifth title in five different weight divisions which included a flyweight interim title to match Mexican legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales.
Angkota?s loss dropped his record to 25-6 with 15 knockouts in the brutal rematch held in Sinaloa, Mexico although there were questions about the lopsided scorecards of the three judges Alejandro Lopez Cid, Adalaide Byrd and Joe Garcia two of whom had Arce the winner 118-110 and the third 117-111 despite the fact that the Indonesian staggered Arce in round eight when he was forced to hang on.
Angkota started aggressively before Arce launched a terrific assault in round three although he appeared to punch himself out and allowed the Indonesian to survive.
Both fighters engaged in furious exchanges in the last two rounds but Arce appeared to get the better of the exchanges over the heavily tattooed Angkota.
The rematch followed their first encounter in January 2010 which Arce won by a sixth round technical decision when Angkota suffered an accidental head-butt and couldn?t continue.
