AMONSOT, DENOY IN CRUCIAL BOUTS!
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 May 2006
Two of Bohol's pride and joy are in for the toughest test of their boxing careers when they face separate foes on May 12 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
WBO Asia-Pacific Super Featherweight champion Czar Amonsot is set to trade mitts in a 10-round non-title bout against Puerto Rican Jose Reyes who boasts of a 18-2 win-loss record, eight of the wins by way of knockout. The tough Puerto Rican, who is now based in the US, established a name in the boxing world having knocked out Colombian Ivan Alvarez last November 5, 2004 in the 9th round for the vacant NABC Continental Jr. Lightweight Championship. His last fight against Hungarian Bela Sangor last February 25 ended in a 5th round knockout held in Spain.
Upcoming Bohol boxing star Along Denoy is slated to fight in another 10-round non-title tiff on the same card. The Candijay native was supposedly to fight Mexican-American Sergio Espinoza but due to an injury suffered by the latter during training last week, Espinoza is unable to push through with the bout. Guilty Promotions, which is heading this boxing extravaganza, is still looking for a replacement to fight Denoy.
Amonsot and Denoy are fresh from their successive wins before flying to Vegas for their respective bouts. Amonsot?s last fight against Thai Decho Bankluaygym ended in a unanimous decision win last March 18 at the Mandaue Sports Complex while Denoy had knocked out journeyman Jun Eraham in the sixth round in a non-title tiff in Manila last February 3.
The two ALA stalwarts are currently putting the finishing touches of their training at the gym of previously Liloan-based British trainer Tony Martin, along with ALA gym trainer Edmund Villamor.
