MARQUEZ-RAMOS TUNE-UP FIGHT: A CUT BACK PREPARATION AGAINST MANNY PACQUIAO By Dionis Jacobe PhilBoxing.com Thu, 21 Jul 2011 The tune-up fight between WBC lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO?s) and WBA Interim champion Likar Ramos of Colombia (24-4, 18 KO?s) was supposed to be a fight for JMM to prepare himself to a bigger fight against the number one boxer in the planet today. The aim of the fight was supposed to look for some adjustment in his fighting style to ensure efficient functioning of his mind and body against a well-rounded, power punching machine in Manny Pacquiao. Thus, JMM handpicked a fighter with a southpaw stance and with a descent knock out record similar that of his opponent. But, said fight did not serve the purpose of Marquez tuning himself up in preparation for his fight with Representative Manny Pacquiao this November 2011 as the fight ended with a seemingly brutal knockout, albeit colored with some acting display of Likar, in the first round in Cancun, Mexico. The said fight, instead of being a heavy work out for JMM, turned out to be a cut back preparation against Manny Pacquiao. If Marquez was truly looking for a hard preparation prior to the biggest fight of his career, even though he was knocked out three times in his previous fights with Pacquiao, he should have hired a fighter who has the caliber that of Pacquaio, who could at least mimic the excellent lateral movements, and superb hand speed of the Pacman for a considerable length of time during the said tune up fight. No doubt, in the said tune up fight, Marquez would not hire a fighter who could spoil his dream of having defeated the eight time world champion in as many weight divisions in the person of Congressman Pacquiao. Otherwise his biggest paycheck would evaporate into thin air. But no one really expected a fight that lasted only one minute and forty seven seconds in the first round, especially that everybody knew the fight was supposed to be a tune up fight. In the end, boxing fans believed that that the said fight did not serve him well against Pacquiao. Nevertheless, boxing fans are excited to see their upcoming fight comes November 11, 2011.
