Katsidis ? Back in Training
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 11 Jul 2011
Michael Katsidis ?The Great? has overcome a nasty flu to step back in the ring on the weekend, sparring current Australian lightweight champion Brett Smith over six rounds.
Katsidis was bed ridden last week forcing him to cancel a media sparring day he had planned on the Gold Coast.
?It was always a concern but we are happy with the way Michael has recovered after a good rest,? said his Manager-Trainer Brendon Smith.
?As much as he (Katsidis) is on a great vitamin and immunity program sometimes it just cannot be avoided...there is so much flu getting around this time of year, it?s better to get it out of the way now, rather than come down with it closer to the fight.
?Michael boxed OK with Brett (Smith) on Saturday and I consider that session to be a bonus as I never expected to have Michael box until tonight... he is in pretty good shape and is recovering well, we are on track for August 13.? Katsidis will be back in the ring sparring tonight against Brett Smith?s challenger, for the lightweight title, Mick Shaw.
Michael Katsidis is fighting on Australian soil for the first time in close to five years against Mexican Michael Lozada. The fight will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday August 13th, and will also have two Australian title fights on the night, making it a boxing spectacular not to be missed.
