CHUWATANA WANTS OPBF BELT BACK TO THAILAND
PhilBoxing.com Wed, 15 Mar 2006
?I want my title back!"
These were the exact words of former OPBF Champion Waengpetch Chuwatana of Thailand upon setting foot on Philippine soil last night at the Mactan International Airport.
The country's premier promoter Sammy ?Don King" Gello-ani together with ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor met Team Chuwatana when they arrived from Bangkok, Thailand Tuesday evening.
Cebu boxing fans should not take the grizzled veteran of 32 fights for granted as he is very determined to regain his OPBF title which he claims to be rightfully his after losing a contoversial split decision to Masayuki Arinaga of Japan last year.
Waengpetch and the stylish and flashy Z Gorres will be vying for the vacant OPBF Superflyweight crown vacated by titleholder Masayuki Arinaga on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
The Thai hitman will be banking on his vast Championship experience having fought six OPBF title fight and winning three of these fights whick gives him a big edge over the unassuming, 22 yr. old Gorres on this aspect.
Gello-ani, when asked about his assessment of the OPBF title fight said that ?Gorres is now on the threashold of making a big impact in international fight scene and as such cannot afford to lose this fight. While it is true that Waaengpetch is more seasoned, the skill and speed of Gorres will be the overwhelming factor that will ensure his victory.?
A strong international and star ?studded supporting cast is expected to draw the most descriminating boxing fans to watch another bloodbath promotion of Gello-ani with two other Thai fighter Decho and Dechapol Bankluaygym collide with WBO Asia ?Pacific Champion Czar Amonsot and undefeated A.J. Banal respectively.
To add spice to this card, a Philippine flyweight Championship will be contested by Rocky Fuentes of ALA Gym and Jojo Bardon of Wakee Salud Stable.
Tickets are still available at the USA Sports outlets in SM and Ayala and at the FIGHT CLUB in Banilad Town Center.
