TINAMPAY RETAINS PBF 140-CHAMPIONSHIP, RODRIGO WINS By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Mon, 13 Feb 2006 PBF junior welterweight champion Arnel Tinampay successfully defended his belt with a 10-round unanimous decision win over number 1 ranked Jury Noda the other night at Seiz de Junio Village, Tagaytay City. Scores were 96-94, 99-91 and 98-94. There were no knockdowns in the fight. Noda started strong and carriend the fight to the champion. However, Tinampay showed his mastery over Noda by completely dominating the exchanges from round 5 until the finish. In the supporting bout, former PBF flyweight chamption Edgar Rodrigo stopp ed Roy Doliguez at the end of the 8th round knocking down Doliguez for the second time in the fight with hard body shots to the body and face. Doliguez managed to rise up at the count of 8 but was in no condition to continue forcing the referee Nobleza to stop the contest. Doliguez started strong repreatedly outpunching Rodrigo in the opening round. A clash of heads in the thick of a furious exchange of shots sent Rodrigo on his pants which the referee ruled a knockdown. Rodrigo, the only fighter to beat world ranked Z Gorres, protested the mandatory 8-count to no avail. In the second round, Rodrigo evened the score by sending Doliguez to the canvas with combinations to the body and head. Doliguez recovered in the third and heavy exchanges ensued between these two light fighters with thuds from punches landed continuously entertained the howling and appreciative crowd. Rodrigo proved to be the hard er puncher and Doliguez slowly wilted from the body shots until he finally got dropped in the 8th round to end most exciting fight of the evening. Other results: Elmer Muyco scored a split decision win over Jack Maldecir in their 8-round super-flyweight fight. Joebar Damosmog stopped Anthony Rosal in the 2nd of their 6-round encounter. Damosmog also knocked down Rosal in the 1st round. Featherweight Dandy Francisco stopped an overmatched Norwyn Rebato in the 2nd of their 4-round fight. Francisco knocked down Rebato twice in the 1st round. The scheduled 4-round fight between flyweights Randy Ca?on and Mark Saloma abruptly ended in the 2nd round following an accidental class of heads which opened cuts on both fighters' foreheads.
