AGUIRRE SEES WEAKNESS IN VILORIA'S ARSENAL
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 12 Feb 2006
World Boxing Council light flyweight champ Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria may be the early favorite to defend his title on February 18, but Mexican challenger Jose Antonio Aguirre says he knows Viloria's weakness and this will be crucial when they cross paths on February 18 (Feb. 19 in the Philippines) at the Alladin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"I am very motivated for this fight, both physically and mentally," emphasized Aguirre when interviewed by Mexican mediamen at his own gym in Santa Maria, Mexico.
With more than 100 rounds of sparring when he goes into the ring to face Viloria, the 30-year-old Aguirre also said that he had already watched videos of Viloria's previous fights, and found out a major weakness which may be the key to his victory.
"Viloria seems to lower down his guard when he attacks, that's why I'm going to take advantage of that," Aguirre commented, adding that Viloria's lack of experience will count in his favor.
The undefeated Viloria holds a record of 18 wins with 12 KO's, while Aguirre is 33-4-1, with 20 KO's, and has been in 11 world title bouts since February, 2000 when he traveled to Thailand to snatch the WBC 105-lb title from Wangdee Singwangcha.
Viloria, who took the WBC crown with a first-round knockout of Eric Ortiz last year, is reportedly gunning for an impressive win over Aguirre to arrange a mega-buck showdown with WBC flyweight titlist Jorge "Travieso" Arce, the most popular small fighter in the world today.
"I know Viloria will be a difficult fight for me. But I will return to Mexico with the green and gold belt," added Aguirre, who is managed by Erik Morales.
