GAB COMMISH IS NEW HEAD OF RP WOMEN'S BOXING By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Feb 2006 In a major development that will surely put Philippine boxing among equal-opportunity landscape, the Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) has appointed GAB Commissioner Alex Paglumotan as its Philippine representative. "I hereby appoint Mr. Alex Paglumotan as the official WIBA representative for the Philippines. Mr. Paglumotan will oversee all WIBA affairs in his country, which include the sanctioning of WIBA title fights in the Philippines, supplying records and results of female boxing bouts in the Philippines, and recommending any filipino women for WIBA ratings," said WIBA Founder and President Ryan Wissow, in an e-mail sent to the GAB a copy of which was furnished to this writer. "In addition to being named the WIBA's Philippines representative, Mr. Paglumotan will also be named an officer of WIBA's Asian branch, the newly formed WABA (Womens Asian Boxing Association), which was created to help develope and further evolve womens professional boxing in Asia, and to bring the countries of the region together in sport," Wissow added. WIBA, a limited liability company registered in Hollywood, Florida, USA under the Federal Trade Commission, was founded in July 2000 by Ryan Wissow of Hollywood Florida USA, and Luis Bello Diaz of Cartagena, Colombia. WIBA has accomplished many things that make it a force in women's professional boxing, like sanctioning world title fights in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Under the leadership of Ryan Wissow, the WIBA set the standards in women's professional boxing, being the first female sanctioning body with legitimate, accurate monthly ratings, and competitive title matches featuring the very best female boxers from all over the world. This has helped bring womens professional boxing to higher level. "It is with great pride and honor for and in behalf of the Games and Amusements Board headed by Chairman Eric R.Buhain and my colleague Commissioner Angel P.Bautista, that I humbly accept the nomination and outright appointment to be the Womens International Boxing Association (WIBA) representative to the Philippines of the Florida, USA-based organization," Paglumotan said in his acceptance column to Philboxing.com. The latest development, according to sources in the boxing community, is a major step towards allowing women in the Philippines to prove their worth in the field of professional boxing. "With GAB Commissioner Paglumotan at the helm, this is a virtual manifestation that the era of women's boxing has now begun in the country," another source said. The GAB, during its board meeting tomorrow to be presided by GAB Chairman Eric Buhain, is set to finally approve women's professional boxing to take place in the country. Buhain, in an interview with this writer earlier, had expressed his utmost interest in promoting the sport among Filipino women. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Salven L.
