Pacquiao-Mosley ticket sales exceed expectations

PhilBoxing.com

Who said the Manny Pacquiao-Sugar Shane Mosley fight won?t draw the crowd?

Why, there was even a suggestion from boxing pundits to boycott the World Boxing Organization welterweight championship encounter because it defies all reasons to be held.

Well, the Pacman fever and that of Mosley hit the scale Monday morning when tickets to the fight set May 7 at the MGM Grand had sold 16,000.

It was the one of the biggest ticket runs in Las Vegas boxing history that put to shame predictions that the 12-round bout doesn?t merit patronage even by the most rabid fight fans who don?t care who the protagonists are.

Maybe those doomsayers, and that include American media, forgot about the 39-year-old Mosley, who owns a 46-6-1 win-loss-draw record with 39 knockouts, possesses, too, the charm that accounted for the last two huge followings to turn out for a big fight in the world?s gambling capital.

As for the eight-division world champ Pacquiao, well, he has consistently drawn gates since catching the boxing fans? imagination in the early 2000s.

When Mosley fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. May last year, the card sold more or less 15,000 seats.

Such big ticket sale in so short a time ? barely three hours to be exact from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., proved that the boxing public pays little or no attention at all to the so-called boxing experts? procrastination. Initial reports by Top Rank Promotions on the very first day that tickets were sold, did not indicate how many ducats were cornered by greedy ticket speculators who, for sure, will then, in turn, double or even triple the face value prices when sold to the public.

?Incredible. Simply incredible,? exclaimed Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum when he heard the by midday . ?I have never promoted a fight that has sold so many tickets so quickly.?

?Manny Pacquiao never ceases to amaze the world with his achievements. The excitement he generated today with the initial ticket sales makes it feel like fight week already,? Arum said as quoted by Philboxing.com.

The world?s pound-for-pound king and top box office attraction Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs), who represents his wife Jinkee?s province Sarangani in the Lower House , defends his WBO 150-pound title against three-division world champion and future Hall of Famer Mosley, of Pomona, California when he returns to Las Vegas after an absence of two years.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions and MGM Grand, remaining tickets to the event are priced at $1,000, $750, and $300. Ticket sales at $1,000, $750, and $300 are limited to 10 per person.
