PLDT-ABAP NATIONAL BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS PhilBoxing.com Tue, 25 Jan 2011 CAGAYAN de Oro City ? Host Misamis Oriental fighters wowed the hometown crowd as seven fighters marched to the next round after two days of the 2011 PLDT-ABAP National Amateur Boxing Championship at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol grounds here. Egged on by a largely partisan crowd, Daryl Basadre, brothers Raphael and Roberto Miguel Jalnaiz, Markguil Salva?a, Samboy Lao, Klemen Earl Cabanlit and Rufino Sumaylo lived to fight for the next round after beating their respective opponents. Basadre?s better performance pulled him through in Youth Boys flyweight class over Genisis Libranza of Cabadbaran City followed by Rafael Jalnaiz?s 17-1 crushing of Archie Estezeydes of Tayabas-Quezon in the kids powder weight class. Older brother Robert Miguel dealt Christian Rabo, also of Tayabas, a clinical 18-4 win in the school boys mosquito division, while Salva?a eliminated Jomeric Delariate of Bicol in the school boys paper weight division. Lao rallied from being down 0-5 to defeat Jade Bornea of General Santos City, 10-8, in the Junior Boys Pin-weight class, Cabanlit lived to his billing as he defied the reach advantage of the taller Fernando Tacuyan of Angeles City in the Jr. Boys light flyweight division, 14-8, and Sumaylo booted out Jeric Fernando of Zamboanga City, 11-4, in the Youth Boys Pin-weight class. MisOr?s lone casualty was Charlie Boy Vertulazo who lost to Jenno Cabugngan of Tagbilaran City in the Youth Boy?s Bantamweight division elimination. Martin Cordova of Bago City also marched to the second round after beating Velmark Dignos of Cebu City via 10-3 decision in the Youth Boys Pin-weight class. Cordova scored all of the six points in the first round and had reached nine points when Dignos scored all of his three points successively before the second round ended at 10-3. The two fighters engaged in a heated exchange in the third bout but none of the punches made it to the judges scoring pads. Bukidnon?s Mark Anthony Florida scored a Referee Stop Contest win in one minute and 39 seconds of the second round over Juren Laborado of Bacolod City and Eumir Marcial was too classy for Dexter Dimaculangan of Laguna as the bout ended in another RSC win by the Zamboangue?o fighter in one minute and 37 seconds of the first round as Argie Moraca of Valencia City scored a 17-10 win over Paul Sacupon of Samar all in the Jr. Boys light flyweight division. Meanwhile, Philippine Sports Commissioner Chito Loyzaga handed over two boxes full of boxing equipment to MisOr Gov. Oscar Moreno during the flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol. Moreno accepted the equipment with lot of gratitude as the two men jokingly did the punch mitts with the commissioner acting as the trainer and the governor as his boxer that drew loud applause from the Capitol employees. The turnover ceremony was attended by ABAP executive director Ed Picson, Provincial Board members Abing Bernaldes, Vice Gov. Norris Babiera, PB Jimmy Cai?a and PB Oliver Actub.
