MARGARITO MEDIA DAY

PhilBoxing.com

West Hollywood, CA:- Top Rank held the Margarito Media Day Thursday afternoon at the new gym of Justine Fortune, the Australian ex-heavyweight contender at this City.

The Gym is pretty decent and clean and just about the same size as the Wildcard Gym of his former boss, Freddie Roach.

True to form, the media horde was there perhaps the same number as those that attended Pacquiao?s media Day last Wednesday at the Wildcard Gym.

We arrived at the gym just after the announced time of 1:00 PM and Margarito was already there signing autographs and gloves for his fans while the media people were busy interviewing his trainer Robert Garcia.

Thereafter, Margarito climbed the ring and did his round of interview with the media people that stood around the ring apron. After a few minutes of that, he went to the dressing room and changed.

Margarito then went back inside the ring and did his stretching exercises. One difference we noticed was that he was alone when doing his warm up exercises, unlike Pacquiao who was supervised by Alex Ariza.

Following that he did some shadow boxing and a couple of rounds doing the skip rope.

Garcia then called him over to tape his hand. The media people crowded around him to get a close up shot of what he was doing.

Then the show begun. Margarito did the mitts with Garcia for several rounds. It was a fairly good session but without sounding biased, this writer felt it was not as impressive as that of the Pacman.

Based on what we saw today, it is the humble opinion of this writer to state that the odd makers appear right. But on the flip side, I could also be so wrong.

Margarito does not look as though he was ready for the fight yet. He appears drained perhaps from his attempts to get to the contract weight of 150 lbs. At the workout he appears far from being near the contract fight weight. Of course that is a pure guess. He could be just where they want him to be at this point and time, three weeks before the fight.

Michelle Margarito, the wife was there looking radiant and very supportive of her husband. When asked about the chances of her husband against Pacquiao, she said that she has no doubt he will win.
