PACQUIAO?S TWELVE STRAIGHT WINS AND MARGARITO?S SIX LOSSES

PhilBoxing.com

World pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao has a professional record of 51 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws with 38 knockout wins and has won twelve straight fights since his last loss to Erik Morales in their first encounter. If Pacquiao will triumph over Antonio Margarito, he will garner his lucky 13th straight win.

Pacquiao first lost to Morales via a unanimous decision on March 19, 2005 during the first bout of the famed trilogy. Despite the loss, Pacman gained the respect of the boxing for putting up a gallant fight against the bigger and taller Mexican, who had already established himself as a legend in boxing.

Since then Pacquiao defeated Morales twice in two rematches which proved that the Filipino boxing king is the more superior fighter. Pacquiao also defeated Hector Velasquez, Oscar Larios, Jorge Solis, Marco Antonio Barrera in a rematch, Juan Manuel Marquez again in a rematch, David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Angel Cotto, and Joshua Clottey.

Meanwhile Margarito incurred six losses already with a lone TKO loss to Shane Mosley on January 24, 2009 in the 9th round for the WBA world super welterweight title. It was during this bout where his hand wraps were discovered to contain substances used to make plaster of Paris and was later suspended together with his trainer. He also lost to Paul Williams, Daniel Santos, Rodney Jones, Larry Dixon, and Victor Lozoya, all by decision. He has 38 wins and 27 of them by KO.

By the looks on the statistics, the coming Pacquiao-Margarito bout favors the Pacman. Pacquiao has 67.86% KO percentage compared to Margarito?s 60%, per boxrec records. Pacquiao is more experienced with 56 fights compared to Margarito?s 45. Pacquiao has fought a total of 317 rounds while Margarito fought 256 rounds. Pacquiao is the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world today while Margarito is not on the top ten list. The only advantage of the Mexican is his 180 cm (5?11?) height and 185 cm (73?) reach as compared to Pacman?s 169 cm (5?6 ??) height and 170 cm (67?) reach.

With hand wrapping strictly monitored by the organizers and by Freddie Roach himself, the plaster of Paris brouhaha won?t be repeated again and the fighter from Tijuana, Mexico will have to fight Pacquiao fair and square. Margarito will be Pacquiao?s stepping stone to bigger fights ahead probably with Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who many would still believe as the best fighter available for Pacquiao box-office-wise.

Margarito made his professional debut at the early age of 15, after compiling an amateur record of only 18-3. He is the former WBA world welterweight champion, former IBF world welterweight champion, and former WBO world welterweight champion. He is the current WBC international light middleweight champion. He won the title over Roberto Garcia by a unanimous decision last May 8, 2010.
