SUMMIT BOXING IN BACOLOD TODAY: MANCIO VS DEL CASTILLO HEADLINES, J.R. MELLIGEN TURNS PRO, DONDON SULTAN RETURNS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 25 Sep 2010 ALA Promotions in partnership with Summit Natural Drinking Water present another slam bang boxing event in Bacolod City today headlined by RP No. 1 Light flyweight contender Jerson Mancio who is pitted against former rated and comebacking Rollen del Castillo. It will be an interesting match-up between the two sluggers since the resurging del Castillo aims to use the highly rated Mancio as his stepping stone to get back to the limelight. A win over Mancio will surely catapult the sagging career of del Castillo who suffered two losses via stoppages in his has two fights. On the other hand, Mancio has had three winning streak since suffering his first loss at the hands of current 108 lbs. champion Marlou Topales sometime last year. The big attraction however is focus on the debut of another Melligen siblings, Mark John Rey Melligen who will be making his first pro-fight at 135 lbs. against another debutant Bonbon Gino of Butuan City. The 20 years old Rey is the younger brother of Mark Jason, who fights under Top Rank Promotions and who is presently in Japan for a sparring session with WBC World Champion Toshiaki Nishioka. A former national amateur boxing team member, Rey decided to follow his two other siblings and start a pro career and hope someday to surpass his brothers' achievements. Another comebacking fighter will try to relaunch his career when Dondon Sultan test the mettle of Dondon Llagas in a battle of heavyweights since both fighters will enter the ring at 150 lbs. A total of 38 rounds of exciting boxing will unfold at the Pahanukoy Gym in Bacolod City under the sponsorship of Summit Natural Drinking Water. It will be another free-to-the-public presentation of Summit Natural Drinking Water which has been responsible in promoting the careers of stalwarts fighters like Jason Pagara, Bonjovi Canillas and current OPBF Flyweight Champion, Rocky Fuentes. ![]() |
