By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 09 Aug 2010

Former WBO straw weight champion Manuel "Chango" Vargas has beaten WBC No. 8 ranked Michael Arango in a scheduled ten round flyweight bout after Arango failed to come out for the 6th round in the main event of a fight card in Sonora, Mexico, Sunday, Manila Time.
The 29 year old Vargas, ranked No, 14 junior flyweight by the WBA improved his record to 28-5-1 with 13 knockouts. Vargas had dropped a split decision to WBO minimum weight champion Donnie Nietes of the ALA Gym on September 12, 2009 in Mexico and was then knocked out in the 3rd round by WBA super flyweight interim champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire on February 13, 2010 at the Las Vegas Hilton in a ?Pinoy Power/Latin Fury? card of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.
Vargas is coming off a 1st round TKO win over Ricardo Armenta in a scheduled eight round bout last July 2Febriary 13. However, Armenta had lost six of his seven previous bouts before facing Vargas.
Vargas?s clash with Colombia?s 31 year old Arango who fell to 30-9-3 with 24 knockouts follows Arango's1st round TKO loss to Ramon Garcia Hirales in a WBC International light flyweight title fight on February 13, 2010. However, the game Mexican came back with an eight round decision over Alfonso De La Hoz on April 15, 2010.
Vargas continues to hope for a world title shot and a story on boxingscene.com quoted Vargas as saying his fight against Arango "is complicated, but I am prepared to for whatever, because this will prepare me for the world title at flyweight,"
