PhilBoxing.com

Filipinos will serve as officials when the city of Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, hosts three world championship fights on Saturday, July 31.

Dante Almario and Atty. Danrex Tapdasan arrived in Accra, Ghana last Tuesday, July 27 and met at the Kotoka International Airport by Ghana?s leading boxing promoter, Mike Tetteh, President of Goldenmike Boxing Promotions.

Dante Almario, a former three-term city councilor of Muntinlupa City, Philippines and a prominent fixture in Philippine boxing as a manager and promoter, will be the Supervisor assigned by the World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) to assist and help the local commission with regard to the handling of the championship bout, and to make sure that all the WPBF championship Rules and Regulations are complied with.

Atty. Danrex Tapdasan will be the referee for all the three WPBF-sanctioned title fights. The boxing show dubbed as the "Night of Champions" will showcase Ghanaian boxers fighting strong foreign opponents.

In the main event, undefeated Ghanaian Light Heavyweight Braimah Kamoko will fight for the vacant WPBF Light Heavyweight Championship against former WBO middleweight champion Hector Javier Velazco of Argentina. Velazco defeated Andras Galfi on March 3, 2003 for the vacant interim WBO middleweight title. He was elevated to full champion when original titleholder Harry Simon failed to make his mandatory defense due to injuries suffered in a car accident. He lost the belt in his first defense to Felix Sturm.

Kamoko known as ?Bukom Banku? is yet to taste defeat in 19 fights. Velazco has vowed to hand Bukom Banku his first defeat. The Argentine said he is well conditioned for the championship bout on Saturday.

In a very interesting development approaching the big boxing show, Kamoko said he will make. He said, ?I will sleep in coffin to come to the ringside to mark the return of the ghost?. He would not explain why he would take such a decision, except to say that after he has won the bout he will tell everybody why he slept in the coffin.

Banku has called for prayers from Ghanaians but cautioned all boxing fans to arrive on time or they will lose the action.
The first co-main event will feature the former Commonwealth welterweight champion Joshua Okine from Ghana against Uzbekistan?s Muhammed Abdullaev for the vacant WPBF welterweight championship.

WBA Pan African light welterweight titleholder Albert Mensah of Ghana will go up versus Karen Tevosyan of Russia and the two will fight for the vacant WPBF light welterweight title.
Tetteh has assured boxing fans of quality boxers, during the upcoming boxing tournament, at the Ohene Djan Stadium. Speaking at a press conference, he said the foreign based boxers slated for the night are high profile boxers with enviable records and would give their Ghanaian counterparts the necessary challenge.

According to Tetteh, his outfit is determined to take Ghana boxing to the highest level, hence the decision to select the best boxers from different countries for the night. He assured boxing fans of their monies worth.

Ghana?s greatest boxing hero - Azumah Nelson, who is a three-time world champion, has confirmed his attendance to the boxing show. The Republic of Ghana is a country located in West Africa. It is bordered by C?te d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the
Gulf of Guinea to the south. The word Ghana means "Warrior King" and is derived from the ancient Ghana Empire. This country is the second largest producer of cocoa in the world and is also home to Lake Volta, the largest artificial lake in the world by surface area.
