McEwan Flies into LA to Fight in Friend`s Memory PhilBoxing.com Thu, 22 Jul 2010 Unbeaten Scottish Middleweight boxer Craig McEwan is back in LA and ready to face the latest threat to his unbeaten record when he tops the bill against Californian Danny Perez at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California this Friday night. 28 year old McEwan arrived from Edinburgh last week after being present at the birth of his second son Cameron. However, his joy at becoming a dad again was badly dampened by the tragic death of his 27 year old friend Gordon Izatt on the 4th of July. ?Gordon had fought with me at my father`s gym in Clovenstone, Edinburgh since we were children. He was a tough boxer with a huge heart in the ring and a friendly, funny guy outside. He always took a keen interest in my professional career and, even in their grief at his passing, Gordon`s family wished me well in my next bout. I`m dedicating my Perez fight to Gordon`s memory. I`ll be thinking of him as I step into the ring on Friday night.? McEwan knows that he will have to be at his best to withstand the predicted ?up and at `em? assault of his experienced,33 year-old opponent. ?Danny has never been stopped as a pro. He has previously fought for world titles and just last year he was a North American champion so I know this is going to be a tough one.? McEwan, who has boxed out of the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood under the expert guidance of Freddy Roach for the last four years, has seen his profile rise in Scotland recently after good recent wins against quality opponents. He says ?suddenly people are starting to take notice of me. My fan base is getting bigger as I get more attention from the Scottish media. My recent sponsorship deal with Edinburgh company Kelvin Lighting has meant that I can concentrate on upping my training at this important stage of my career.? (PR) ![]() |
