LUMACAD WALKS AWAY FROM JABEL WBO ORIENTAL TITLE FIGHT; CAREER MAY BE OVER PhilBoxing.com Tue, 13 Jul 2010 Fernando Lumacad. American Boxing Academy manager Ken Smith has informed Philboxing that fighter Fernando Lumacad has backed down from the challenge of Braveheart boxer Jermie Jabel. Smith gave no reason for Lumacad's change of heart, although Smith did say "I have already informed our promoter Sammy Gello-ani and WBO Asia President Leon Ponancilo what has happened with Lumacad, and apologized to them both for Lumacad's unproffesional behavior". Gello-ani and Ponancilo both of whom Smith credited with giving Lumacad opportunities to fight in the US and Mexico that Lumacad never would have gotten, if not for both men. Lumacad was a huge dissapointment to Filipino boxing fans when he quit against Jorge Arce in Atlantic City USA. Lumacad after being knocked down by what appeared to be a very light punch, decided to take the full ten count while sitting on his pants. Even after this disgraceful showing where Top Rank boss Bob Arum was quoted as saying "it looked like the filipino just quit" Lumacad was given another opportunity to redeem himself this time in Mexico against Juan "Goofy" Montes where again Lumacad showed his lack of courage by "running" for ten rounds just barely surviving the fight. Lumacad lost that fight in a lopsided unanimous decision, that none of the 3 judges scored even one round for the Filipino fighter. Even after those 2 fights Lumacad was offered a WBO Oriental fight this Aug 1st by Braveheart manager Manny Pinol, a fight that Lumacad initially accepted, before having an apparent change of heart. His career now appears to be over at least as far as Smith is concerned. Smith said "I am finished with Fernando. I have had it with him, this is the last straw. I am sending a letter to GAB releasing him from my management. I have done everything I could for this boy, I cant fight for him, so now he can go drive his tricycle, his career is over at least with me." |
