The Tale of Boxing's Barefoot Prince
(A Braveheart Boxing Club Special Presentation)
Edrin Dapudong vs. Jesus Jimenez
WBC Flyweight Silver Championship
A one-hour television special on the Philippines new boxing champion, Edrin "The Sting" Dapudong, is all set to be shown on July 3 Saturday at 11 a.m. on ABS CBN Studio 23.
Initially planned to be just a one-hour boxing presentation to show Dapudong's sensational 1st round knockout of Mexico's No. 1 Pound for Pound Flyweight and World Ranked No. 1 Jesus Jimenez for the World Boxing Council Flyweight Silver Championship, the program has been designed to be a special that will introduce the fighter called "Boxing's Barefoot Prince" by sports journalist Recah Trinidad.
Veteran sports commentator Ronnie Nathanielsz will host the one-hour presentation which will also feature former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol, Dapudong's manager, and the new champion along with his chief trainer Noli Pinol.
"I asked Ronnie to host it because it would look awkward if I hosted the show and heap praises on my own boxer," said Manny Pinol, himself a sports journalist and a boxing commentator.
The show, titled "The Tale of Boxing's Barefoot Prince," will also feature Dapudong's seven round demolition of veteran Bert Batawang in March 2009 to win the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Junior Flyweight title.
The main feature will be his 1st round KO victory over Jimenez in Tepic City, Mexico June 19 to win the WBC Flyweight Silver title.
The presentation will also give viewers a close look into the life of the 24-year-old farmer's son from M'lang, North Cotabato and a glimpse of the other boxing prospects being developed by Pinol and his brothers in North Cotabato under the Braveheart Boxing Club.
