ORCOLLO BLASTS SOUQUET 9-6 AS RP STARS SHINE IN WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Former world No.1 and recent World Pool Masters champion Dennis Orcollo blasted European pool superstar Ralf ?The Kaiser? Souquet 9-6 to lead a collection of Filipino stars some of whom carry the colors of Middle-East countries where they reside and work, in the 2010 World Pool Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Other impressive winners among the Philippine contingent were pool legend Francisco ?Django? Bustamante who made up for the loss of his bosom buddy Efren ?Bata? Reyes by whipping Fabio Petroni of Italy 9-7 in the second stage of the double elimination group phase.

Reyes who was totally off his game lost to Hiatao Liu of China 5-9. The other Filipino to drop his first round match was Jeff De Luna who lost to Thailand?s Nitiwat Kanjanasri 6-9 while Marlon Manalo lost a cliffhanger to countryman Joven Alba who is representing the United Arab Emirates in the 9-ball event although he is a Filipino through and through.

Another Filipino sharing the colors of Kuwait, Allen Cuartero overcame Chan Keng Kwang of Singapore 9-7 while Olver Medenilla, sporting the UAE colors upset fancied Jeong Young Hwa of Korea 9-6.

Israel Rota of the Philippines who is representing host nation Qatar stunned defending World Pool Champion Daryl Peach of Britain in a pulsating match, 9-8 while youthful Lee Van Corteza, the US Open champion routed Syria?s Al Khadar 9-1 in a first round match.

Comparative unknown Raymynd. Faraon of the Philippines ripped Britain?s Mark Gray 9-2 to move into contention among the players seeking a berth in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Later in the day former World 9 Ball Champion and 8 ? Ball king Ronnie Alcano breezed to a 9-1 win over a hapless Ahmed Hassan, Venancio Tanio beat Holger Gries of Germany 9-54, Antonio ?Nikoy? Lining eased past American Corey Deuel 9-7 and Antonio ?Ga Ga? Gabica tripped Nicolas Ottermann of Germany also by a 9-7 margin.
