ABE CONCEPCION'S WIN WILL SPOIL LOPEZ-MARQUEZ FIGHT IN SEPTEMBER By Dionis Jacobe PhilBoxing.com Wed, 30 Jun 2010 Even before the happening of the scheduled championship fight between Abe Concepcion and Juan Manuel Lopez on July 10, 2010 in San Juan, Puerto Rico for the WBO Featherweight belt, Lopez already has a fight in store for him on September 18, 2010 in a Showtime main event at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas against a formidable veteran, the former champion in Rafael Marquez. However, handlers of Lopez and Marquez are quick to acknowledged that the scheduled September 18 fight is dependent on Lopez winning the fight against Concepcion. In the highly anticipated WBO featherweight championship match on July 10, Concepcion looks to avenge his loss by way of a controversial disqualification against Steven Luevano who formerly held the belt. In that tragic fight, he was highly favored to win because of his aggressive style as opposed to Luevano's style of being a pure boxer. The fight against Lopez is important for Concepcion as an it opens an avenue for an eventual reign in the featherweight division where his benefactor, Manny Pacquiao once ruled. But since Lopez has an edge over Concepcion in terms of height and reach advantage, not to mention his unduanting punching power, many people favored Lopez (28-0-0 with 25 KOs) to maintain his undefeated record, but Concepcion (28-3-1 with 15 KOs), who is inspired by no less than the pound-for;pound king, has all the tools and has all the reasons to spoil the September 28 match between Lopez and Marquez. To win the fight against Lopez, Concepcion must show excellent footwork and quick in his lateral movements to avoid the relentless attacks of the champion. He should be able to dance his way in finding better angles to counter Lopez onslaught. If, and when Concepcion would be able to execute excellent lateral movements and can connect his power punches, the scheduled September 18 showdown will surely be derailed.
