The Saga of Dong Secuya

PhilBoxing.com

There's another uprising going on in this crazy country of ours. And it's not even about the turmoil in the local political arena. That's old hat, guys. That's pass?. This one is more exciting. Real life. And real time. And once again, the character of the Pacman himself, Manny Pacquiao, has unwittingly served as the main reference of the events that had transpired and changed the course of the life of one resolute man: Dong Secuya.

For the true boxing fan (and Pacquiao fan), the name of Dong Secuya rings more than just a bell. For Dong was the guy who created the most famous and fun-filled website of any fighter on the planet, www.mannypacquiao.ph , the best hang-out for all boxing and fun crazy Filipino surfers on the internet. The volume of daily hits for the site is simply astounding. Day in, day out. Needless to say, Dong Secuya is the most revered figure in PACLAND, the site's more popular name. He's the Godfather, the Capo de Tutti Capi, or Boss of All Bosses. Although Dong is not running a Cosa Nostra family here, the site had morphed from a true fan base into a hip and cool assembly of liberal individuals. It is a come-as-you-are-and-we-don't-give-a-damn welcoming party.

Like all true godfathers, Mr. Secuya had his night in jail. Just two nights ago, Dong, who probably never had imagined even in his wildest dreams he would be subjected to this, was forced to spend a night at a detention center somewhere in the city of Cebu. All thanks to the warrant of arrest stemming from the libel rap filed against him by, of all people, Rod Nazario. The once benevolent Nazario probably got incensed with the write-ups he read at Dong's two popular sites (the other one being www.philboxing.com).

It is of high importance to note that Mr. Dong Secuya had opened and created two very comprehensive boxing portals for the entire Filipino nation to view, be informed and generally enjoy oneself. And even though yours truly had never met Dong, I strongly feel that he would never compromise and conceal the truth on whatever articles that the readers of his sites may ever find there. Take it for what it is. No sugarcoating and camouflaging. No tampering and corrupting of files and articles. No editing. Everybody gets a fair shake. Everyone gets his own pure fix. It's an ultimate high for the true boxing junkie like most of us. And we always want our daily fix…

Frankly, I myself never thought such a thing could happen to a man like Dong Secuya. Getting jailed for informing the reading public honest and fearless views and opinions, write-ups, articles etc. It's totally ridiculous and insane just thinking about it. Here was a guy who had noble purposes and had successfully put his countrymen and their most famous fighter on the web, and he goes to jail for it! However popular the Pacman is, those in the know cannot deny that his stock grew to great proportions with the invaluable exposure he got with the help of the Pacland website. And ironically, I must say that Pacland is a cinch to carry on even when the Pacman has long been gone.

I now invite the reader to venture into the realm of Pacland, for you get to experience that there is a buzz and stir taking place there. Almost everyone is fidgety but calm. I'm sure everyone there knows by heart that you can't put a good man like Dong down. Pacland is a wonderful sub-culture on the net. There is order and decorum maintained and carried out by elected moderators. But for me, it's the Freedom Park on the net.

Like all great champions, Dong Secuya will roll with the punches. He will withstand the brunt of this attack. He will go to the trenches and he will come out alive. He may be outfought but he will not be overmatched, because his heart is truer. At the end of the day, he will lay there on the field exhausted, but victorious. Thank you, Mr. Dong Secuya, for giving me the opportunity to re-live the dreams of my youth. That is, to write about the sport that I truly love. Thank you for putting into fruition that sports, by way of Pacland, can transcend through social and age barriers. And lastly, our gratitude goes to you, for the unconditional accommodation that you've extended to every Filipino boxing fan.

So what do guys do when they get to learn that their "Morpheus" is under siege? What else, but start a Revolution. But hey, remember that we're hip and cool, eh,guys? We're professionals. We put things in their proper perspective, right? We do this thing by the number. And we're great in number. A huge one. We're designed for the long haul. For a protracted struggle. And we will enjoy every single round while it lasted…
