FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE: Andy Dominguez Defeats Byron Rojas by Split Decision To Win WBC USA Silver Light Flyweight Title on Atlantic City

PhilBoxing.com

Alex Martin, Bruce Seldon Jr., Rony Hines and Julio Sanchez all Pick up Wins

Andy Dominguez edged out Byron Rojas via 10-round split decision in an exciting toe-to-toe slugfest to win the WBC USA Junior Flyweight title to headline an entertaining card at the Tropicana Atlantic City.

The card was promoted by Boxing Insider Promotions.

The fight was fought at close quarters for the balance of the 30-minute affair. There were many instances of sustained action with each guy getting the better of the exchanges. Dominguez was able to work the body in an attempt to break down Rojas. That only seemed to urge on Rojas as he was able to land some hard combinations of his own.

The fight was on the table down the stretch with Dominguez surging ahead to win by scores of 97-93 and 96-94, while Rojas took a card 97-93.

The Las Vegas based Dominguez improves to 13-1. Rojas of Holland, Michigan via Nicaragua is 29-5-3.

Alex Martin won a eight-round unanimous decision over Daiyannn Butt in a junior welterweight bout.

Martin did well by countering well on the aggressive Butt. Martin was able to get his straight left going and land consistently. Butt did well in spurts, but it was not enough as Martin won by scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75.

Martin of Chicago is now 19-8. Butt of Philadelphia is 20-3.

Bruce Seldon Jr. needed just 46 seconds to take Alexis Soriano Taveras out in a heavyweight bout.

Seldon landed a devastating left to the solar plexus to put Taveras down and out.

Seldon of Smithville, NJ is 7-0 with six knockouts. Taveras of The Dominican Republic is 3-3.

Roney Hines pounded out an eight-round unanimous decision over Ed Fountain in a heavyweight bout.

Hines of Cleveland won by scores of 80-72 twice and 79-73 and is now 15-0-1. Fountain of St. Louis is 14-10.

Julio Sanchez III scored a stoppage over Alexander Stone after three rounds of their lightweight bout.

Sanchez was dominant and caused a cut around the right eye of Stone in round three.

Sanchez of Pleasantville, NJ is now 2-1 with one stoppage. Stone of Jackson, TN is 1-6-1.
