INSIDE THE ROPES: KEY TO WARD'S VICTORY By Dionis Jacobe PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Jun 2010 The Super Six Tournament, which featured WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (22-0) and Allan Green (29-2) in the main event, was a perfect display of will power of one fighter over the other. In the opening round, Green appeared to be in the driver's seat when he danced his way around Ward while the champion seemed to be tentative yet relax feeling the atmosphere of the ongoing fight, but this was only temporary since Ward took over the tempo of the action by giving Green some hard shots to the head and the body. Since then, the champion dictated the fight and showed Green his superiority in the ring. The spectators, including Green's corner, were surprised to see Ward suddenly shift gear in the third round by bringing the action inside the ropes which apparently caught Green flatfooted. Since then, Ward dominated the inside fight giving Green hard and powerful punches with sporadic devastating uppercuts that made Green appeared tired and dizzy throughout the fight. Ward's gameplan of fighting inside the ropes was very effective against his opponent. In fact, Green could not anymore connect on his wild occasional lefthook. In the middle of the fight, Ward started to unleash powerful shots from different angles which drained and sucked Green's energy. This powerful shots made Green tired and could not anymore answer the thunderous assault of the champion. The inside fighting of Ward not only retained the WBA super middlewight belt, but also retained his perfect record. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Dionis Jacobe. |
