PhilBoxing.com

JUNE 24 CARD AT L.A. LIVE'S CLUB NOKIA FEATURES UNBEATENS FRANKIE GOMEZ, JESSIE VARGAS & JAMIE KAVANAGH

LOS ANGELES, June 17 - A trio of top-notch prospects will battle it out in the ring in separate bouts at L.A. LIVE's Club Nokia on Thursday, June 24. Unbeatens Frankie Gomez, Jessie Vargas and Jamie Kavanagh will return to action at Golden Boy Promotions and AEG's "Fight Night Club".

In the main event, East Los Angeles' highly-touted amateur star Frankie Gomez makes his fourth pro and second consecutive "Fight Night Club" appearance in a four round junior welterweight match against Geoffrey Gaya.

The co-main event will see Las Vegas' Jessie Vargas return to "Fight Night Club" to face veteran Ernesto Zavala in a six round welterweight bout, and opening the televised portion of the card will be 140-pound Irish phenom Jamie Kavanagh against an opponent to be determined.

Also on the card will be Lancaster junior middleweight Roberto Reyes (1-0, 1 KO) and 2008 U.S. Olympian and unbeaten former amateur star Gary Russell Jr. (9-0, 6 KO's) will face an opponent to be determined in a six round fight.

No stranger to Los Angeles fight fans who have watched him grow from a stellar amateur to a promising pro, 18-year-old Frankie Gomez (3-0, 3 KO's) is wasting no time getting accustomed to the professional game and since making his pro debut in April, he has already won three fights, all by knockout. On June 24, he'll look to make it four for four in front of his hometown fans when he takes on Florida southpaw Geoffrey Gaya (5-2, 1 KO), a native of Nairobi, Kenya who has won two in a row.

21-year old Jessie Vargas (10-0, 5 KO's) has drawn rave reviews thus far in his career and that's not surprising given his natural talent and a dynamic fighting style that has led him to a perfect professional record. Fresh off of a sixth round technical knockout win over world-class veteran Arturo Morua on the Mayweather-Mosley undercard on May 1, Vargas is eager to take LA by storm on the 24th and will be pushed to the limit by one of California's most battle-tested veterans, 11-year pro Ernesto Zavala (21-4, 9 KO's).

A native of Dublin, Ireland, Jamie "The Nuisance" Kavanagh (1-0, 1 KO) has made a home away from home for himself in Los Angeles, and with Freddie Roach in his corner, the top prospect is already making a mark in the United States. Winner of his first pro bout in May via second round technical knockout against William Ware in world-renowned Madison Square Garden, Kavanagh is eager for to make his LA debut on June 24.

"Fight Night Club" is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and AEG and is sponsored by DeWalt Tools, McDonald's, Budweiser, Powerade and USTREAM. The series will return to L.A. LIVE's Club Nokia on July 22, August 26, September 30, October 28 and November 18.
