CASTANARES MEETS JAPANESE FOR THIRD TIME
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 Sep 2005
Their first two bouts ended in a draw, and this time, World Boxing Foundation junior welter king Dindo Castanares and Japanese Daigoro Yamamoto are set to put closure to their rivalry when they duke it out once again in a 10-round rumble on November 6 at the IMP Hall in Osaka, Japan.
Last September 11, their second face-off ended abruptly when Yamamoto suffered a deep gash following a collision of heads in the opening round of a scheduled 10-rounder at the same venue.
Three years ago, the duo also drew their first bout after a torrid 10-round action.
"I'm sure he is going to prepare better this time. So do I," said Castanares, who has also an standing offer to fight in Australia sometime in January next year.
Melbourne promoter Peter Maniatis, in an e-mail, said he was interested in having Castanares defend his WBF world title against one of the more popular fighters in Melbourne. A possible foe is Steven Marks, although Maniatis has hinted they might look for another opponent who will be more popular than Marks in Victoria.
Castanares had won the WBF 140-lb crown with an earth-shaking fourth-round demolition over Panamanian Guillermo Mosquera in Auckland, New Zealand December of last year.
