LOPEZ REPLACED BY REY LAS PINAS IN WBO ASIA PACIFIC TITLE FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Indonesia?s Carlos Lopez has been replaced by Rey Las Pinas as the challenger to countryman Nino Magboo for Magboo?s WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title in the showdown of ?Young Guns? at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City on Saturday.

The Solar Sports promotion will be headlined by undefeated WBO No. 3 ranked Drian Francisco (18-0-1, 14 KO?s) who battles tough No. 2 ranked Ricardo Nunez in the main event. Nunez is coming off a string of five knockouts and is the reigning WBA Fedelatin champion while Francisco won the vacant WBA Intercontinental title with a 10-th round TKO of former world champion Roberto Vasquez last October 3 also in a fight card presented by Solar Sports.

Lopez was replaced after he suffered a 6th round knockout at the hands of former world title challenger and talented Australian Billy Dib last March 6.

Magboo has a record of 11-1-1 with 5 knockouts and won the WBO Asia Pacific title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Richard Olisa on January 16 this year. His only loss was to the classy Eden Sonsona, the current Philippine bantamweight champion who has impressed fight fans in the US with spectacular back-to-back stoppage wins against quality opponents in the US.

In his last bout on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey event at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas, Sonsona won by an 8th round knockout over former world champion Mauricio Pastrana.

Magboo is also rated by the WBO at No. 3 bantamweight while his opponent, Rey ?Sting Ray? Las Pinas is a tough fighter and has a record of 9-1-4 with 5 knockouts according to boxrec.com.

An interesting sidelight to Rey Las Pinas is the report that in his second fight as a professional he scored a 2nd round knockout over a fighter listed by boxrec.com as ?Hammer? Rosales in Talibon, Bohol on July 13, 2006. The claim is that Hammer Rosales was in fact Ciso ?Kid Terrible? Morales who was, according to records of the Games and Amusements Board fighting under the name Hammer Rosales. Ciso Morales is from Talibon which adds an intriguing dimension to the fight between Magboo and Las Pinas.

In another supporting bout which should be interesting, undefeated southpaw Al Sabaupan clashes with Indonesia?s Heri Andriyanto for the IBF Pan Pacific title.

Sabaupan has a record of 10-0-1 with 7 knockouts while Andriyanto is a fighter whose record of 14-11-2 with 9 knockouts could be deceiving because he comes to fight.
