“After the Hurricane comes the Bad News” - Lisa Brown

Discipline, desire, determination, dedication is Lisa Brown’s motto and when you have those 4 D’s the dollars will come after. Lisa is 39 years young has been boxing since the age of 16 years old, she is a respected and renowned Canadian Boxer who is known internationally for her success and vibrant personality. Like Ana Julaton, Lisa Brown is also very well liked and a pleasant athlete who is a role model and a consummate professional inside and outside the ring.

Philboxing recently had a one on one exclusive interview with Canada’s Lisa “Bad News” Brown who is the current WIBA and NABC Champion. at 122lbs. Lisa’s head trainer/coach is her husband Errol Brown who is a former professional boxer who fought for the Canadian and Commonwealth Titles. Richard Lewis a well known Canadian boxing personality is Lisa’s agent, publicist and also present in Lisa’s corner. Richard has been a boxing coach for 4 decades and have coached former IBF Champion Barrington Francis. Lisa Brown is promoted by Royal T Promotions & Productions.

Since 2000, Lisa has been the official Spokesperson/Rolemodel with 4u2XL Youth Development Centers delivering her message and programs to improve youth self -esteem, self-image awareness and fitness to combat bullying, youth crime and apathy. She spearheads the ABC’s and 4D’s of a Champion Character Traits development and Team Brown’s “Respect Check Motto” presentations to youth at every opportunity.

Lisa has been in 23 professional fights, her record is 16W-4L-3D, 5KO and have boxed a total of 160 rounds. She has never been stopped by a knockout in her career. Lisa is as true and bonfire as a champion can be in every respect, she is determined to win.

10 Questions - Getting to know Lisa “Bad News” Brown

Rob Cruz: Lisa how has your training camp been for your match up with Ana Julaton?

Lisa Brown: I’ve trained in a way to fight and box against any opponent. Part of my training is to be adaptable and to be able to make adjustments during the fight with any opponent I face in the ring.

RC: How much have you sparred in training and with who?
LB: I have sparred about 100 rounds with different opponents during my training.


RC: What style of boxing are you known for?

LB: I am a boxer/puncher who is aggressive and determined, relentless in my pursuit.

RC: How is your progress with cutting weight to make 122lbs?

LB: I’m already at 123lbs, it hasn’t taken a lot of effort for me to maintain that weight.

RC: What do you know about your opponent’s style of boxing?

LB: Ana Julaton throws a lot of jabs and has good movement, she comes to fight.

RC: This is a 10 round championship fight, are you ready to take it all the way.

LB: Going 10 rounds is not an issue for me as I am in great condition for this fight. I have never been stopped any of my previous fights.

RC: Within a few years, where do you see yourself in the sport of boxing?

LB: I hope to be active and still competing for a few years, I want to be active because I love sports. When I retire, I hope that I may leave a legacy regarding my years in boxing and my accomplishments.

RC: How important is this fight with Ana Julaton and it’s significance for women’s boxing?

LB: Our fight is the most prestigious match up in the women’s lower weight class divisions.

RC: You are fighting in front of your hometown, how do you feel about that?

LB: I’m used to fighting on the road and I’m treating this fight as I am the underdog even though it is here in Ontario.

RC: Thank you for meeting with me and I appreciate your time. Who would you like to tribute this fight to?

LB: I am dedicating this fight “To Canada and the Olympic and Champion Sprit in all Canadians and Canadian Forces serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Closing comments:

Whatever the outcome maybe, win, lose or draw, Lisa Brown would like to have a unification rematch in the future with Ana Julaton at 122lbs since all of the belts are not in contention on their March 27 fight.
