MOREL TRAINING HARD FOR PENALOSA PINOY POWER III SHOWDOWN

PhilBoxing.com

Eric Morel.

Former WBA flyweight champion Eric Morel who arrived in Puerto Rico the previous Sunday to step up training for his showdown with two-division champion Gerry Penalosa in the "Pinoy Poqwer III" blockbuster card at the Las Vegas Hilton on March 13 feels he may be a little behind schedule in training for the fight and is working doubly hard.

Morel is training at the Gymnasium of the Fal? Parcels in Piedras River in preparation for his WBO Interim title fight against the southpaw Penalosa who is always known to be in shape.

Morel who sports a record of 41-2 with 21 knockouts arrived at the Island just over one week ago and plans to train there until Sunday, January 31. His preparation is being handled by Jim Pag?n.

Morel said “We arrived Sunday and we felt well, physically and mentally. The good thing is that here in Puerto Rico one sweats much and this helps a lot in my preparation.” Morel said that with the heat in Puerto Rico he could make even the super flyweight limit of 115 pounds.

Reports from Puerto Rico said that Morel has been sparring six rounds with two southpaws and showed good lateral movements and footwork besides going through a complete routine in the gym..

Morel said his preparation has gone well even as he claimed the fight against Penalosa “is a little difficult” because WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico has not made himself available. However, Morel said the interim championship against Penalosa was offered and “ we are going to take advantage of it.”.

Morel knows that Pe?alosa who has a record of 54-7-2 with 36 knockouts is a veteran who was world super flyweight and bantamweight champion and among his losses was a tough fight against the new WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez.

Morel said “I know that it is going to be a good fight.. Everybody knows who Penalosa is, how he has prepared. But this is my time and I have prepared to the maximum having worked hard with southpaws.” Morel reportedly weighs 125 pounds at present..
