THIS FEBRUARY 6, 2010 THE WORLD BOXING COUNCIL CHAMPION EDWIN VALERO AND THE WBC INTERIM CHAMPION ANTONIO DE MARCO WILL FIGHT FOR THE ABSOLUTE WORLD CHAMPION TITLE IN MONTERREY, NUEVO LEON. IN THE CELEBRATION OF MEXICO?S INDEPENDENCE BICENTENNIAL BUT...WHO ARE THESE FIGHTERS?
EDWIN VALERO
He was born on December 3rd, 1981 in Merida, Venezuela; and is known by the nickname of “Dynamite”.
He began his career in 2002. He is unbeaten with a spectacular and impeccable record of 26 fights, all of them won by knockout, and 19 of them in the first round. He is a southpaw.
Valero is a two-time world champion, as he won his first Superfeatherweight title on August 5th, 2006, winning by technical knockout in 10 rounds, when he defeated Panamanian fighter Vicente Mosquera. He made 4 successful defenses.
He became World Boxing Council World Champion in the Lightweight division, on April 4th, 2009, when he defeated Antonio Pitalua (Colombia) by technical knockout in 2 rounds.
This will be the second defense of his WBC world title.
ANTONIO DeMARCO
He was born on January 7th, 1986 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. He lives in Tijuana, Baja California.
He began his career in 2004, his record is: 23 wins, 17 of them by knockout, one loss and one draw.
DeMarco is the WBC Lightweight Interim World Champion; he won the title on October 31st, 2009, by defeating Jose Alfaro (Nicaragua) by technical knockout in 10 rounds.
The winner of this bout will become the undisputed world champion.
