DARCHINYAN IS NEXT -- GUSANO ROJAS
By Hesiquio Balderas PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Oct 2009

In a boring fight, Tomas "Gusano" Rojas retained the interim WBC super flyweight title by UD against Evans Mbamba Saturday night at the World Trade Center in Veracruz, Mexico.
"El Gusano" dominated the action from round one against an opponent who has little skill and seemed to come to Mexico only for the payment. But even with such an opponent, Rojas took some serious shots to the head and body and when you think of it, it is difficult to believe that Rojas wasn't able to keep his opponent at bay with his jab. Lets remember that "Gusano" is taller and to think that Rojas' next opponent is knockout artist Vic Darchinyan, there is really no hope there for the Mexican fighter.
During the contest, the fighter from Veracruz sent the South African to the canvas twice, one of which was more of a slip and Mbamba was able to recover and comeback with a flurry of his own.
At the end of the fight the judges had the fight 117-109, 117-109 and 119-108 for Rojas who increases his record to 32-11-1 (22). After the fight Rojas and his team were loud in demanding a fight against Vic Darchinyan who is the real champion at super flyweight, but "El Gusano" and his team should think about it twice because if the left handed fighter from South Africa was able to land some good shots and create problems for the Mexican, just imagine what Darchinyan could do.
Is not just a matter of moving around the ring and Rojas does that very well, he needs to improve his defense and his work rate because Vic Darchinyan will be all over him and Tomas takes too many clean punches to the head against shorter opponents and that is just what the "Ranging Bull" from Australia wants.
