Hernandez vs Frias and Seeger vs Fonseca Tomorrow on Showtime from Laredo, Texas By Reiver Rodriguez PhilBoxing.com Fri, 23 Oct 2009 Everything is ready for “Showbox: The New Generation” boxing night under Showtime and Gary Shawn Promotions, live from the Laredo Entertainment Center in the border city of Laredo, Texas, this Saturday October 23rd. In the main event of the night, disputing the WBC Latino Welterweight Championship, Cuban native, 33 years old Damian “Devo” Frias 16-1, 7KOs will be facing Mexican native, 30 years old Freddy “riel” Hernandez 21-1 18 KO’s and 1 ND. Frias, is a six year pro, lefthanded veteran at 140 to 147 pounds who is naturally righthanded, and has been inactive in the last couple of years. He’s fighting for the first time in nine months and the previous fight was a year before that. Frias has not lost in his las 12 combats. He was last defeated in April 2004. Hernandez at the age of 30, is an eight year old pro who returned to the ring in July 2009 after 15 months of rest. Hernandez is experienced against good opposition, but with mixed results. He scored one of his career-best wins in July, 2004 when he defeated in a 10 round decision the welterweight prospect Jesus Soto-Karass. But in his next fight, Hernandez lost a 12 round decision against welterweight contender Golden Johnson in February, 2005. SEEGER VS FONSECA In what is consider the best fight of the night, te actual NABF super bantamweight champion, Al “The Quiet Storm” Seeger 28-4, 22KOs from Georgia will exchange blows against Puertorican Victor “Vitino” Fonseca 16-0, 8KOs in a 10 round bout. Thirty years old Seeger, who is now ranked number 7 by the WBC and No. 13 by the WBA at the 154 pounds division, is a seven year pro, a veteran in 122 pounds and has lost 3 of his las 4 fights. Seeger was one of the stars of a boxing revival in his hometown of Savannah in the early 2000s. his manager-trainer Mike Jarrell owns a boxing gym there, as well as a recycling yard where his boxers could work during the day. Over the first four years of his carreer, Seeger’s first 20 fights, and 27 of his 28 fights, were in Savannah and he regulary drew capacity crowds of about 2,500 to fight cards. Seeger has been fighting only occasionally, however, in recent years. His last fight in April 2009, was his first in nine months. Seeger is coming of an eight-round TKO win against Benjamin Flores in April, 2009, but the fight ended tragically, Flores passed away five days later. Victor Fonseca, 28 years old, and a native of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, is ranked IBF No. 7, WBA No.8, WBO No.10 and WBC No. 32 at 122 pounds. He is a four-year pro with a naturally left hand. Fonseca is a prospect at 122 pounds. He fought in the United States for the first time in July, 2009. All of his other fights had been in his home country. He has stepped up in class of opposition in the last couple of years and given impressive performances. In his last fight, on September 18, 2009, in Puerto Rico, he won an eight-round unanimous decision against Alexander Espinosa 8-1. Fonseca scored a third-round knockdown and won the match.
