ISRAEL VAZQUEZ WANTS JUANMA LOPEZ OR NONITO DONAIRE, JR. NEXT

PhilBoxing.com

Fresh from NOKIA PLAZA, LOS ANGELES, California - For nineteen months of being away from feisty hands, bombs and combat injuries, Israel "Magnifico" Vazquez's poignant wish for a tranquil life finds no sanctuary as he hovers his mind around the periphery of today's boxing world. But, rather, he finds his inmost affection to a much greater intensity for the fiery stuff than ever before, at least conceivably for now in the sphere of battling economy.

Upon completion of the full-recovery period from surgery for a detached retina and after being medically cleared and re-licensed by the California State Athletic commission, two-time Junior Featherweight Champion Israel "Magnifico" Vazquez will make his return to the ring tomorrow, October 10th, against Angel Priolo in a ten-round featherweight fight at the Nokia Theatre-L.A. Live.

Taken just a few moments ago here at the Nokia Plaza Courtyard are the official weigh-in results of the final bouts, inclusive of the undercards:

Main Event: Israel Vazquez ( 43 - 4, 32 KO's) - 125.8 lbs. vs. Angel Priolo (30 -7, 20 KO's) -124.8 lbs. - Featherweights -10 rounds

Swing bout: Ronny Rios (7-0, 3KO's) - 126.5 lbs. vs. John Wampash (1-2-1, 1 KO's) - 126.5 lbs. - Featherweights- 6 rounds

Co-Main Event:: Carlos Molina (9-0, 5 KO's) - 138.5 lbs. vs. Cesar Holguin (9-2, 3 KO's) - 137.5 lbs. - Junior Welterweights - 6 rounds

Co-Main Event: Luis Grajeda (6-0, 5 KO's) - 149 lbs. vs. Juan Carlos Diaz (3-0, 2 KO's) - 147.5 lbs. - Welterweights- 6 rounds

Jose Armando Santa Cruz (26-4, 15 KO's) - 143 lbs. vs. Sergio Macias (14-17-1, 6 KO's) - 143 lbs. - Welterweights - 6 rounds

Khabir Suleymanov (8-0, 3 KO's) - 122.5 lbs. vs. Hugo Ramos (2-3, 1 KO) - 123 lbs. - Featherweights - 6 rounds

Ricky Duenas (3-1, 1 KO) - 145.75 lbs. vs. Jose Cardenas (1-2, 1 KO) - 149 lbs. - Welterweights - 4 rounds

Oscar Venegas (pro-debut) - 121 lbs. vs. Misael Martinez (0-4) - 117.75 lbs. - Junior Bantamweights - 4 rounds

FIGHTSCAPES:

Angel Priolo, once a great fighter but whose last six fights were all series of defeats, might just become an easy prey for the Pride of Chelango (belonging to Mexico City). Priolo's first two losses of his last six fights ended TKO round 7 by Brian Viloria in 2004 and another TKO round 3 by Jorge Arce in 2005.

But, Priolo insists: "I am mentally and physically ready to fight and I know I'm prepared for tomorrow."

"I cannot wait for the first bell to ring and I'm ready to give Israel Vazquez a great fight." Priolo adds.

Israel Vazquez says he is "ready to win again" and looks forward for more exciting fights.

In fact, in an exclusive interview with this writer as translated by Ramiro Gonzalez, the Public Relations Director of Golden Boy Promotions, Vazquez reveals his immediate targets after he deals with the rugged son of Columbia this Saturday.

"I would like to fight against Juan Manuel Lopez or Nonito Donaire, Jr. next," says Vazquez, the former World Super Bantamweight Champion, who drew blood in a trilogy with fellow Mexican Rafael Marquez and emerged victorious via a 12 round split decision that had both fighters won the Boxing Writers Association of America award for 2008 Fight of the Year.

Both Juan Manuel Lopez and Nonito Donaire, Jr. are under Top Rank Promotions. Lopez is set to fight as well tomorrow at the Madison Square Garden in New York against Rogers Mtagwa for the WBO Super Bantamweight title at 120 pounds, which Lopez holds, while Donaire, Jr. is yet to confirm his opponent for next fight schedule.

Vazquez, former sparring partner of Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao, thinks Donaire, Jr. , 5'6" at 26, is "too skinny at such weight class and should build more muscles and must move up in weight to be more competitive, to fight good fighters".

Donaire, Jr. fought Rafael Concepcion of Panama and won by unanimous decision last August 15 at supposed to be 115 pounds limit, of which the latter came in during official weigh-in about four pounds over and may have weighed around 135 on fight night.

Meanwhile, Frank Espinoza, Sr., the promoter of Vazquez, issues another challenge for Nonito Donaire, Jr. .

"I want Nonito Donaire, Jr. to fight Abner Mares," said Espinoza, who owns the infamous Espinoza Boxing Promotions. "Mares is undefeated and I think it is going to be a good fight."

Israel Vazquez versus Angel Priolo, dubbed "The Return", is presented by Golden Boy Promotions, Espinoza Boxing Promotions and Sycuan Ringside Promotions. "The Return" is a ten round featherweight fight that will headline an evening of world class boxing.

Tickets are priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25. To purchase tickets, please call 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the STAPLES Center Box Office.

The fight will be broadcast on the HBO Plus service in Latin America beginning at 7pm local time (10pm ET). Pin
