BROWNE, BELANDRES CLASH FOR WBC YOUTH WORLD FEATHER TITLE
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 09 Oct 2009

Sydney, Oct. 8 – Australian Davey Browne and North Cotabato fighter Reynaldo “Boy of Steel” Belandres are all set for a their match up for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth World Featherweight championship tomorrow at the plush Star City Casino and Hotel in downtown Sydney.
In the official weigh-in held today, the 5’ 11” tall Browne came in at exactly 126 pounds while the 5’ 5” tall North Cotabato boxer Belandres weighed 125 pounds.
Bruce Lerio, assistant trainer of the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato who accompanied Belandres for the fight, said Browne appeared gaunt and was hardly able to make the weight limit.
“Reynaldo had no problem making the weight. In fact, we were one pound underweight,” said Lerio.
Braveheart Boxing Club owner and North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Pinol arrived in Sydney today to be at the corner of Belandres in the biggest fight of the young fighter’s career.
Belandres, from Dalapitan, Matalam town, is a former amateur standout who holds a record of 16 wins, 10 KOs and 2 draws in a three year boxing career.
Vice Gov. Pinol said his team has plotted a strategy to counter the height and reach advantage of Browne, who is known to be tactical fighter with a very effective jab.
Belandres himself, who was able to view a tape of Browne’s fight after arriving in
Australia, said he is confident he will be able to neutralize the Australian’s height and reach advantage.
The fights to be held at the small theatre room of the Star City Casino will start at about 7 p.m. which is about 4 p.m. Manila time.
