BELANDRES FIGHTS FOR WBC WORLD YOUTH TITLE

Kidapawan City, North Cotabato - Undefeated featherweight prospect Reynaldo "Boy of Steel" Belandres, who earlier expressed interest in fighting Rey Boom Boom Bautista, will finally get to appear in a big event when he goes up against Australia's Davey Browne for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) World Youth Featherweight title in Sydney Oct. 9.
Belandres, 23, a former amateur boxing standout who holds a record of 15 wins (10 KOs) with two draws, will be making his first attempt to win a world title in the youth category.
The task is not easy though. Browne is 5' 11" tall and is an impressive tactical boxer who has appeared in many big fights in the past.
Promoter Garrie Francisco of Grange Old School Boxing which is promoting the fight said the bout will be televised by Australian sports networks.
Belandres will be accompanied in the trip to Australia by North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Pinol, Co-manager Col. Pat Pinol, chief trainer Noli Pinol and assistant trainer Dante "Bruce" Lerio.
Belandres, who is from Dalapitan, Matalam, North Cotabato, said he will make sure that Australian boxing fans will remember this fight and Filipino boxing fans will be delighted by the result.
Former Manny Pacquiao opponent Todd Makelin of Australia arranged the Belandres-Browne fight.
