LAPUT HEADLINES 'FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS'

PhilBoxing.com

When no. 4 world ranked junior featherweight Ramie Laput returns to the Cebu City Coliseum tomorrow night he won"t expect much fanfare. Laput, the reigning WBO InterContinental Jr Featherweight champion has toiled most of his career in obscurity. Even while building an impressive 38-3 20kos record and collecting an RP championship along with the WBO Asia Pacific belt Laput has remained mostly unknown outside his own home of Davao City. The 30-year old Filipino fighter who is a husband and father of 3 young sons has seen his career take off in the last 2 years since joining his manager Ken Smith at the American Boxing Academy in Digos city. Laput who is being promoted by SGG promotions of Cebu will take on former RP champion Phil Angcamor in the 10-round main event fight at the Cebu Coliseum. The battle will be the very first installment on a continuing series of "Friday Night Fights" that is being promoted by promoter Sammy Gello-anni.

Laput's hookup with his American fight manager and the Philippines' top boxing promoter could spell the end to Laput's identity problem. Laput could expect that his name could become very well known soon. Laput's manager Smith said this, "Sammy G has just recently assured me that SGG promotions will have Ramie in a big fight by the end of this 2009 or for sure very early 2010, we are keeping Ramie busy and active until his opportunity comes, Angcamor is not an easy opponent, and we take these type of fights because we want Ramie to be ready when his big fight is scheduled soon."

The scheduled supporting bout on the "Friday Night Fights" card features #1 rated Filipino flyweight Fernando Lumacad. Lumacad another fighter from the Ken Smith ABA stable will take on veteran Nino Suelo[23-20] in another 10 round affair. Lumacad 20wins-2loss-2draws will be fighting in an attempt to rebound from his disappointing performance against former world champion Jorge Arce. Arce Ko'd Lumacad in 3 rounds with little resistance from the #1 rated Filipino flyweight.

Lumacad's opponent Suelo is coming off a decision win over Richard Donarie just last month in Cebu.

Also scheduled to see action on "Friday Night Fights" is Fil/Australian Arnel Barotillo. Barotillo a former world title challenger will take on Joy Pol in an 8-round match. The night's preliminary card will start at 700pm. Tickets are P100 and P200 and are available at the door.
