SOLIS LOOKING FOR A REMATCH WITH VILORIA
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Wed, 09 Sep 2009
Tepic, Nayarit -- Dethroned IBF light flyweight title-holder Ulises "Archie" Solis of Jalisco, who was the last victim to the 'Hawaiian Punch's searing comeback, is looking for a rematch with his tormentor, according to Solis's Mexican promoter Guillermo Brito.
"We are looking for the rematch to happen in November or December this year, if that won't happen, we'll do it early next year," Brito told PhilBoxing.com. "We prefer the fight to be in Mexico but I know that it will be difficult to do that. If a Mexico fight won't happen, we will fight him anywhere."
Solis (28-2-2 20KOs), who had been a terror to Filipino fighters having beating Rodel Mayol, Bert Batawang and Glenn Donaire in succession, is fighting Gilberto Keb Bass (28-20-3 16KOs) on September 15 in Cancun for a tune-up fight. Meanwhile, Viloria was impressive in his first title defense against Jesus Iribe at Blaisdell Arena in Hawaii last August 29. Solis and Viloria engaged in a thrilling contest at the Araneta Coliseum last April 19 that ended in a 11-round knockout victory for Viloria effectively wresting the title from the rugged Mexican.
Solis and Viloria are both under the Top Rank promotional banner which makes the fight easier to finalize. "[Mexican promoter] Fernando Beltran is talking to [Top Rank president Bob] Arum and Arum is talking to Brian's manager Gary Gittelsohn, so I think the fight can be made soon," Brito said.
