SONSONA ARRIVES IN CANADA, VOWS TO KNOCK OUT LOPEZ

Toronto, Canada – GenSan Marvel “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona has arrived in Toronto, Canada with trainer Nonito Donaire Sr.

Sonsona, who had just turned 19 years old, has set his mind to knock out Jose “Carta” Lopez for the world World Boxing Organization Jr. Bantamweight title.

According to Philippine promoter Sammy Gello-ani, “the kid is very excited about his bout with Lopez, we expect a war from Carita Lopez. However, we are confident that our “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona will come out victorious.”

At the Manila Airport a couple days ago, Sonsona thanked his family back home in GenSan for all the support they gave him. He also thanked Philippine promoter Sammy Gello-ani for providing him all the fights in the Philippines and with promoter Sampson Lewkowicz who gave him the title shot.

Sonsona said that he will try his best to win a world title, “this is for the love our country and I plan to bring the title home to the Philippines. I sacrificed myself in training to be in great condition. I am ready and willing to trade blows with the champion, I will pray to our lord Jesus Chris to give me all the strength, power to prevail, and to be successful. Only God knows if it is my time for glory. Mabuhay Pilipinas.”

Meanwhile, international referee Bruce Mctavish has informed several writers that he believes Sonsona will do well against Lopez. He recalled Sonsona’s last fight against former WBC interim champion Wandee Singwancha of Thailand and thought at that the time it would be a hard test for Sonsona since he personally know Singwancha after refereeing the Thai on several occasions.

Mctavish said, “as I looked at his young lanky body with no muscle, I really thought it would be a tough night for this kid. However, I couldn’t believe the kid turned on his gear and started unloading bombs on the second round which eventually knocked him (Wandee) out cold.”

“With an undefeated record of 13 wins and no defeat with 12 knockouts, this kid is surely going somewhere,” Mctavish added.

The fight card is billed as “Rumble at Rama IX” headlined by Marvelous Marvin Sonsona versus Jose Carita Lopez, 12 rounds for the World Boxing Organization Jr. Bantamweight crown, which will be held on September 4th, at Casino Rama, at Rama, Ontario. It also features Canadian Heavyweight champion Greg “The Steel Pole” Kielsa (10-0, 5 KO’s) who will take on American Kevin Monty (17-6-1, 13 KO’s) on a 10round tiff and former IBF Junior Featherweight world champion, “The Canadian Kid” Steve Molitor (29-1, 11 KO’s) who will face tough Argentine Sergio Escobar (11-8-1, 2 KO’s).
