ABNER MARES TO HEADLINE "FIGHT NIGHT CLUB" ON AUGUST 27TH AT CLUB NOKIA AT L.A. LIVE IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, July 31 - Currently ranked in the top five in the world by the WBO and IBF, bantamweight sensation Abner Mares is on a collision course with the division's elite. On Thursday, August 27th, Mares touches down at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to fight in the main event on the latest edition of the new hit series "Fight Night Club". He will be joined by fellow Los Angeles-area fighter David Rodela who will do battle in the co-featured bout of the evening.

"It's great to be back in Southern California and I can't wait to get into the ring on August 27th," said Mares. "I've been training hard for this fight and I feel sharper than ever. I'm definitely going to put a show on for my Los Angeles fans at Club Nokia."

"We are really excited about 'Fight Night Club' and to have a great fighter like Abner Mares fight on the series only adds to that excitement," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "Top off the show with David Rodela making his return to 'Fight Night Club' and you've got a show that I don't want to miss."

"Fight Night Club" is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and AEG and is sponsored by Quaker State, EA Sports' Fight Night Round 4 and Vitamin Water. The series will return to Club Nokia on September 24th. Televised bouts will air live on VERSUS and will be streamed live on RingTV.com and Yahoo! Boxing beginning at 6:00pm PT/9:00pm ET. Doors open at 5:00pm PT and the first bell rings at 5:30pm PT.

Tickets, priced at $65 (Mezzanine VIP), $50 (Lower Mezzanine), $40 (Upper Mezzanine) and $28 (General Admission: Floor standing room), may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 online at www.ticketmaster.com or thru any Ticketmaster outlet or the STAPLES Center box office. The pride of Montebello, California and a member of the 2004 Mexican Olympic team, Abner Mares (18-0, 11 KO's) is a budding star both in the United States and in Mexico (originally from Guadalajara, Mexico). Blessed with a full arsenal of weapons in the ring, the 23-year-old Mares won the NABO bantamweight title with a seventh round stoppage of Former World Champion Isidro "Chino" Garcia of Guerrero, Mexico in September of 2007 and defended the crown twice with wins over Argentinean David Marchiano and Diosdado Gabi of the Philippines. After an impressive victory over 15-1 Jonathan Arias in June of 2008, Mares stopped Jonathan Perez in six rounds this past May. On August 27th, he hopes to continue on his road to the top of the 118-pound division in front of his hometown fans.

A former United States amateur champion, Oxnard's "Dangerous" David Rodela (13-1-3, 6 KO's) is hitting his stride in the pro ranks with a series of big wins over the last two years, including victories over Jose Luis "Mapachito" Soto Karass, Julio Gamboa, Ramon Ayala and former world champion Kevin Kelley. He continued his win streak in 2009 with a ten-round win over Marlon "Rata" Aguilar in January, followed by another victory against Juan Garcia on June 11th in the first installment of "Fight Night Club". On August 27th, Rodela hopes to continue his winning streak by notching another victory at Club Nokia.
