The Black Tiger from the Congo on the prowl for Labao
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 31 Jul 2009
 Jesus Muzaka Singwancha.
Jesus Muzaka, an African from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, arrived in Cebu Wednesday for his WBO Asia Pacific superfeatherweight title fight against Rey Labao of the Philippines this Friday.
Muzaka fights in Thailand using the surname Singwancha. He is called “The Black Tiger” by the Thai boxing fans. The 29 year old was a two time African amateur champion and represented his country as an Olympian. He went to Thailand together with countrymen who go there to train in Muay Thai kick boxing. But Jesus continued as a conventional boxer. His manager, Naris Singhawungcha, said that Mazuka used to fight just for money but now under his guidance they hope he will be winning title belts. He made the superfeatherweight limit Thursday afternoon during the official weigh-in at the GV Tower Hotel and stated his readiness for his battle against the hard hitting Filipino.
The highly regarded trainer, Nonito Donaire, Sr. has been training Labao (17W-1 L, 12 KO’s) in Cebu for over a month. He is impressed with Labao’s power and skills and thinks he will be ready for a fight on American soil. Muzaka (15W-7L, 8 KO’s) could spoil all of their plans. In his last fight, he knocked out his Thai opponent Decho Bankluaygym in a single round. Muzaka speaks French, English and Swahili. His fists will speak a more violent language come Friday night.
The fight will be held at the Naga City Sports Complex as the co-main event for the Jason Egera vs Petch Kokietgym grudge rematch.
On a personal note, I was surprised that the African language that I learned after two years in East Africa was still understood by people from the central part of the continent. It was pleasant to converse with Muzaka in Swahili. But whatever the language, this fight promises to be a thriller.
