SONSONA VIES FOR WBO CROWN; POISED TO BECOME RP'S YOUNGEST WORLD CHAMP

PhilBoxing.com

In what surely be a historic night for Philippine boxing, Sampson Boxing Promotions has just confirmed that world ranked WBO #6, WBC #12, and IBF#12 super flyweight contender ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona will do battle against Puerto Rican world champion Jose Carita Lopez on September 4, 2009 at Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada.

Sampson Lewkowicz, who discovered the likes of Manny Pacquiao in his earlier days has informed in a press conference tonight that this kid wonder ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona has the same road to glory as the Pacman.

?When I found Manny Pacquiao no one was interested in him, none of the top promoters in America would touch him and I had to force Murad Muhammad to sign him, and look at him now, everyone is going crazy over him," said the international matchmaker and promoter. ?I had similar situation proposing Sonsona to several promoters but no one was interested in taking the risk. So I am taking this to my own hands to promote him myself with my partners."

?Today, we are looking at the new future in boxing. I am personally here in the Philippines as the USA promoter of Marvin Sonsona to make a special announcement that I have solidified the bout contract with reigning super flyweight WBO world champion Carita Lopez to engage with Marvin Sonsona on September 4, 2009 and I can assure you that come September 4th a new star will emerge," added Lewkowicz.

Meanwhile, not only that people will recognize him as only a young world champion, but he will be making history as the youngest Filipino world champion knocking off Hawaii based Filipino, WBA world featherweight champion Ben Villaflor who won the world title on April 25, 1972 against hard- hitting Venezuelian Alfredo Marcano.

Sonsona, should he prevail, will win the title at age 19 and two months years of age, while Villaflor approximately won the world title at 19 and six month years of age that will only separate them four months of each other that will make Sonsona the youngest world champion ever from the Philippines.

?After he wins the title, I will make sure that he stays the world champion for years to come," assured Lewkowicz.

Meanwhile, the manager of Sonsona, Dr. Rajan Yraola and head coach Jun Agrabio informed that Team Sonsona has included renowned Fil/Am trainer Nonito Donaire, Sr. to the training team to add more to Marvin?s ability, making sure that ?Marvelous? Marvin takes home the crown comes September 4th.

With the similarity of fighting style of Marvin Sonsona and Nonito Donaire, Jr. the well respected Donaire Sr. who is credited for training his son at a young age and of course that memorable victory over IBF flyweight world champion Vic Darchinyan, should surely be beneficial factor for Team Sonsona against Lopez this coming September.
