GAB declares Villanueva-Macas fight a ?No Decision? PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Jun 2009 The Games and Amusements Board has declared the controversial Lorenzo Villanueva-Eric Macas fight in Ozamis City last May 23 a ?No Decision.? In its Resolution 09-08 Series of 2009 signed by GAB Chairman Eric Buhain, Commissioner Angel Bautista and Commissioner Juan Ramon Guanzon, the Board said it appears that the cut suffered by Macas in the right portion of his eye was due to a legitimate punch from Villanueva. GAB's action followed a letter of complaint filed by North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Pi?ol who owns Braveheart Boxing Club to which the 22-year-old Villanueva belongs asking for the reversal of the technical decision verdict by the GAB panel in Ozamis City which declared Macas winner. Vice Gov. Pi?ol in his letter asked for the result of the fight to be reversed to a technical knockout victory in favor of Villanueva. The fight, scheduled for 10 rounds, saw the younger Villanueva, a legitimate featherweight, battering Macas, a junior lightweight, starting the opening of round 1 hurting the Lanao del Norte fighter several times and succeeding in inflicting a cut over his right eye which the referee declared was caused by a legitimate blow. The fight was stopped with about 15 seconds left in the 5th after Referee Delbert Pelegrino saw a cut below the right eye of Macas. He ruled that it was caused by a headbutt and declared Macas winner by technical decision. A review of the video recording of the fight however showed that the cut was a result of three powerful punches connected by Villanueva. Villanueva, one of the top featherweight prospects in the country today, came into the fight with an immaculate record of 14 wins with 14 KOs while Macas had a record of 5 wins against 3 losses. The bout against Macas was the first that went beyond 4 rounds for Villanueva. The GAB said its decision to declare the fight a ?No Decision? was reached after a careful scrutiny of the affidavits of the persons concerned as well as the review of the recorded video of the fight. It said the parties are given the option to stage an immediate rematch. They are also given a period of forty-eight hours from receipt of the decision to file a motion for reconsideration without which the resolution shall be final and executory. |
