LAPUT TO DEFEND IN CEBU MAY 28 PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 May 2009 Digos-based and world rated boxing contender Ramie Laput returns to the New Cebu Coliseum this May 28th to defend his WBO Inter-Cont Jr featherweight title against foreign invader and former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin of Kokiet Promotions of Thailand. Laput, the worlds #7 rated Jr featherweight feels much at home in Cebu as proven by his past performances here where he has earlier won both an RP championship and then later he claimed the WBO Asia Pacific Interim championship with a 3 round pounding of his Thai opponent. Laput the defending WBO Inter-Cont Champ will be facing the toughest test of his 40 fight career(37-3 20Kos) when he meets the former WBO Bantamweight world champion Ratanchai Sor Vorapin 74 wins 11 loss 49Kos.Vorapin in addition to being the former world champion is best known for his two tough KO losses to Philippine boxing legend and future hall of famer Gerry Penalosa. Vorapin who is coming off a 10 month lay off after being beaten up by underrated world contender Michael Domingo early last year. The former world champion Vorapin is meeting the WBC #20 and WBO #7 rated Laput for a possible future chance at the world title. The triple WBO championship fight card is being promoted by International promoter Sammy Gello-ani. The main event featuring Laput and ex-world champion Vorapin of Kokiet Thailand will be challenged for top billing as SGG Promotions also will showcase unbeaten Filipino phenom and WBO Asia Pacific youth champion Marvin Sonsona in the biggest fight of his young career. Sonsona at 11-0 10Kos goes up against former WBC Jr Flyweight champion Wandee Singwanchee 58-6 of Thailand. The bout scheduled for the vacant WBO Oriental flyweight belt, is a major step up for the young world rated prospect Sonsona. In another championship fight unbeaten WBO AsiaPacific Jr flyweight champion Jonriel Casimiero is slated to defend his belt against Aldin Diale. |
