ABS CBN TO SHOW FIGHTS OF MAGBANUA, MARAON AND PORRAS TODAY
PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 Mar 2009
Boxing fans who missed the Feb. 21 "Battle of the Best Bantamweights" which featured Mindanao's promising young fighters will have the chance of seeing the fights on Sunday, March 8 on ABS CBN Channel 2 at 10 a.m.
ABS CBN Vice President Peter Musngi said the network decided to replay the fights in view of the huge interest generated by the exciting fights of young Mindanao boxers Rolando "Smooth Operator" Magbanua, Jundy "Pretty Boy" Maraon and Glenn "The Rock" Porras who all won by spectacular fashion in the undercard of the Gerry Penalosa-German Meraz fight at the Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City.
The Mindanao fighters who are all managed by North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Pinol and his brothers under the Braveheart Boxing Club are considered prospective world title contenders.
Magbanua, 23, a former amateur standout from Pigcawayan, North Cotabato defeated Mexican Jose Angel Cota by 6th round TKO and snatched the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Interim Bantamweight Oriental title. He now has an unblemished record of 14 wins with 9 knockouts.
Maraon, 24, from Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, knocked out WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight champion Jason Egera in the third round to crown himself as the new champion. Maraon now has a record of 13 wins with 10 knockouts and one draw.
Porras, 23, from Luz Village, M'lang, North Cotabato, demolished Thai fighter Daothon Sithsoey in only one round improving his record to 21 wins with 15 KOs and 3 losses.
Also featured on March 8 are the fights of Rommel "Little Assassin" Asenjo and Jermie "The Worm" Jabel, both young fighters from Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.
The Cebu fights were jointly promoted by Vice Gov. Manny Pinol and Sammy Gelloani of SGG Boxing Promotions.
Editor's Note: This story has been re-posted as there was an error in the original date it was supposed to come out -- on March 10 -- but it will be shown today, March 8, Manila time.
