GORRES FIGHTS FOR RESPECT PhilBoxing.com Sun, 01 Mar 2009 ![]() Nothing less than respect is what drives and motivates the amiable Z ?The Dream? Gorres when he face yet another test against former IBF world champion Roberto ?Mako? Leyva of Mexico on March 14, 2009 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. It is sad that not many people have given the 26 years old Gorres the recognition due him when in fact he has fought more illustrious fighters than any of his ALA stablemates. Among those he has fought are the likes of current world champion Fernando Montiel and Vic Darchinyan and ex-title holder Eric Ortiz. The flashy and talented Gorres modestly confides, ?that I believe I won that fight against Montiel but they give him the decision. I drew my fight with Darchinyan and I put him down on the canvass - yet, nobody seems to have remembered.? Gorres has the misfortune of getting involved in two highly-controversial fights with Montiel and Darchinyan but these were undeniably one of the most exciting and thrilling fights ever witnessed by Cebuano boxing fans. A near riot almost took place when bottled waters and coins were thrown into the ring when New Zealand referee Lane Revill called a knockdown on Gorres when the latter actually just slipped and was not hit by a blow from Darchinyan. Another explosive fight is to be expected again when Gorres faces another acid test in former IBF world champion Roberto ?Mako? Leyva of Mexico whose fight records reflect victories over world champions Daniel Reyes and former Filipino world champion Manny Melchor. Leyva whose nickname ?Mako? derived from a specie of shark is not only a former IBF world hampion but at one time was also WBC Youth World champion after beating Roberto Gomez for the title. Boxing experts has forwarned Gorres to be wary of the punching power of Leyva who has knocked out 20 of his 25 wins in his 34 fights. ?Gorres has told us to get Heriberto Ruiz after Leyva to avenge the loss of his stablemate Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista but this remains to b seen because the latter also wants a rematch. He has still to dispose of Leyva .? said ALA Promotions President, Michael Aldeguer. Sales and reservations of tickets have been very brisk and another full-house is expected at the Waterfront Hotel. Tickest are reasonably priced at Php 1,500 for VIP 1st row; Php 1,250 for VIP 2nd row; Php 1,000 for VIP 3rd row; Ringside- Php 550; Ballroom- Php 350.00 & Balcony-Php 250.00 and are now available at ALA Promotions Office at 2364611; ALA Gym BTC -4162011; ISI Boutique Ayala ? 2312581; USA Sports Btq.-2321854 and ALA Gym Gaisano Mactan kiosk. ![]() |
