PACQUIAO VS. MARQUEZ III: BANKABLE BUT NOT NECESSARY

PhilBoxing.com

A lot of boxing fans have been clamoring for a third match between the Pacman and Dinamita. I will agree that it will be another hell of a fight and will make boxing fans forget the recession. But is it the best choice of fight for our national fist?

We all know that JMM has been stalking Pacman like an obsessed homo running after his macho papa. Or like a cry baby running after the person who stole his lollipop. Remember his famous line, ?you know I won that fight, sign this paper now and give me a rematch?. Well those are not the exact words but they surely meant the same. Instead of being graceful in defeat just like Manny when he lost to El Terrible in their first match, the bitter Mexican followed our champ to Manila and told the whole nation that he was stolen his victory and wanted a rematch. A persona non grata at that after the warm welcome he received from our Kababayans. What a very gay act.

Forget the stalking stuff anyway. My main point here is, hasn?t Manny proven enough that he is ?Mas Macho? than the Mexican Dynamite? After one judge admitted that there was an error in the scoring during their first match which ended in a controversial draw despite JuanMa being knocked down thrice in the first round, and after Pacman floored him once in their second fight, is there a need for yet another fight to erase all doubts as to who?s the better fighter?

JMM is a true warrior and one of the best in the world. Admittingly, he is so far the only boxer who gave Manny his most difficult fights. Every fighter has always a ?Katapat?, a Nemesis, an Archrival, and I believe that that is what JMM is to the Pacman. But then, was he able to make Manny touch the canvass even once? Manny made him kiss the canvass four times in a row. He may be good but Manny is definitely better.

With Manny at the top of the P4P list, he surely is the Man to Beat. Every fighter wants a crack at the Pinoy Pride. He is every fighter?s ticket to instant fame and a fatter purse. And with this status, it is Manny and his promoter who holds the ace in choosing whom to fight next. And sad to say, there are a lot of greater fights out there for Manny than a third match with a guy whom he has beaten twice.

There?s Cotto, Mosley, and the primadonna Money May who might only come out of retirement is he gets convicted by the IRS for unpaid taxes or if another thief breaks into his place and steal his Million $ bling blings. These guys are no joke opponents for Manny, but beating them will seal his place in the boxing hall of fame even surpassing the great Ali, Henry Armstrong or Sugar Ray Robinson.

But among the abovementioned welters, the best fight for Manny would be with Money. Nice title huh, Manny vs. Money. I would be willing to dance at Obando or offer eggs at Mount Carmel monastery here in Bacolod just for the Heavens to grant us boxing fans this real Dream Match and for PBF to be enlightened and come out of his cocoon.

Granting these better fights go gray, then JMM must settle a lot of things first before regaining his status as the best contender for the P4P king. Let?s see how he handles Juan Diaz come February 28. Should he beat Diaz, maybe he can fight Edwin Valero, Nate Campbell, Joan Guzman and Ricky Hatton (since Pacman will surely beat him). I?m quite positive that the Pacman still isn?t retired by the time he has beaten all those fighters.
