NIETES THE SNAKE, POISED TO BITE AND GOBBLE RAMIREZ
PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Feb 2009

Los Angeles, CA: - WBO minimum weight champion, Donnie ?AHAS? Nietes quietly slithered to town last Sunday anxious to defend his crown against a dangerous challenger,
Eric Ramirez at Oaxaca, Mexico.
Nietes came to town accompanied by his trainer, Edmund Villamor and a stable mate from the ALA Gym, Alex John Banal.
Nietes is in town for three reasons :- to acclimatize with the unseasonably cold Los Angeles winter which is close to the present day winter weather in Oaxaca, Mexico, get last minute final pointers from famed boxing coach Freddie Roach of the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood and a visit Dr. Ed de la Vega to get a customized world-class mouthguard.
Nietes who sports a 23-1-3 (14KO) record is taking a huge chance defending his title against Ramirez who was born and raised at Mexico City. If things really get close with the scores, a ?hometown decision? may possibly occur.
However Nietes indicated that he has full confidence on the integrity of the officials to be designated by the WBO. Besides he continued, ?I do not intend to give them a chance to make the decision. I will make it easy for them by winning decisively?.
Nietes is one of the last stars from the ALA Gym to be fitted a mouth guard by Dr. de la Vega, the well-known sports dentist from Canoga Park, California. Dr de la Vega count amongst his athlete/patients three world champions, WBC Lightweight and present day pound4pound king Manny Pacquiao, WBO Bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa and IBO/IBF Flyweight title holder, Nonito Donaire, Jr., as well as former multi-division champion, Fernando Vargas and heavyweight contender, Frez Oquendo among others.
Nietes? swagger and confident demeanor indicate that he truly is ready and confident to keep his crown. Even his trainer, Edmund Villamor feels the same. ?Handan a kami, Doc? (We are ready)
But will the snake keep his word and bite and gobble the Mexican challenger?
We sure hope so!
