THREE MATADORS - Morales, Marvelous, Marcial READY FOR COMBAT PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Jan 2009 In a show simply billed as "WAR" this coming Saturday at the New Cebu Coliseum, fight fans in Cebu and the whole nation of the Philippines are looking forward to an exciting pack of championship fights for everyone in the world to see. What promises to be a spectacular program, promoter Sammy Gello-ani said that the undercard of full talented prospects will be a real treat. "Fight fans will also see my hot up-coming prospect Ciso "Kid Terrible" MORALES, Anthony "Rocky" Marcial and "Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona defending their prestigious titles" promises Gello-ani. Gello-ani praises his three "M" Matadors, as the next up coming prize fighters that he truly believes will be future Filipino boxers to be world champions. Gello-ani informed that "Kid Terrible" Morales, undefeated in twelve fights with seven knock-outs, who showed a lot of skills during the ABS-CBN program on the Invasion program in Manila, is looking hungrier this time around following a hand injury that sidetracked him last year. The Bohol native looks forward to again be in the spotlight of a block buster boxing program this coming January 31st. Morales will be going up against tough as nail Pichitchoke Singmanasak 18 total fights with only 8 defeats. The more experienced Thailander who was credited by a hard fought fight against Drian Francisco in 2006 and recently last year went on an all out war for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific 118lb championship against Filipino rated Jason Egera. Singmanasak fell short to win the vacant title after Egera had Singmanasak hurt and down on round seven with unanswered combination of body shots. However, after falling short after two regional championship tries, representative Michel Do of Thailand said that Singmanasak is in tremendous shape, ready and fit to win the WBO Oriental title from Morales. "We think Morales is beatable after what I have seen from him with my other Thai boxer Narongnoi Or Muangklang on July 19, 2008 in that same Cebu venue, we are sure to bring the WBO Oriental title home," explained the French-speaking Michel Do. Morales, who had set backs from hand injury is coming back from a long 6-month layoff. We caught up with his manager Kenneth Rontal and asked about his condition, he explained that he had Morales scheduled on a SGG Sports promotions program on October 3, 2008 however, with the recommendation from his doctor, he was not allowed to fight. Rontal explained, with that injury and 6-month layoff, "we hope that it wouldn't hamper his performance against Pichitchok Singmanasak because we are afraid that he would be rusty and the last defense was really a hard fought fight against Narongnoi. We are depending on the training he had with Jun Agrabio who informed me that he was in top shape," explained Rontal. Another SGG fighter chasing for greatness is WBO Oriental Interim super-featherweight champion Anthony "Rocky" Marcial who has been showing impressive skills and power. Marcial is undefeated with a record of 11wins no loss and 10 by way of knock out, he is currently world ranked number 10 by WBO. This bout should be an exciting bout of undefeated sluggers, however, with the amateur experience and skills of Marcial that should dictate the pace of this fight, Gello-ani emphasized. Marcial who is managed by Cagayan De Oro-based father and son tandem, Angel and Joven Jimenez, are confident of the guidance SGG Sports Promotions have provided. There will be bigger and better opportunities with Gello-ani and by end of this year it is predicted that there should already be 20 fights for Rocky. "Marcial will be defending his Oriental title consistently throughout the year with credible opponents and eventually Marcial will be a mandatory to the world champion. There will be no rush for us, time will tell," said Jimenez in his native language. Nevertheless, there is one final young boxer that is making waves added Gello-ani. His name is "Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona with an unblemished record of 10wins no loss with an impressive 9 number of knock outs to his wins that surely speaks for itself as a Marvelous prize fighter. Sonsona will defend his WBO ASPAC 112lb YOUTH title against Leimpetch Sor Veerapol of Thailand. Veerapol recently won his last bout with an impressive win against prospect Yodsaenking Por Choomchok who formerly was the WBC world YOUTH Jr. Flyweight champion who in his reference had wins over Filipino Robert Rubilar and Richard Garcia.
