GEJON WINS IN SINULOG SLUGFEST

PhilBoxing.com

Eriberto ?Yukka? Gejon and Ronald Castrodes battled for ten exciting and brutal rounds and gave boxing fans a Summit Fight Night to remember during the Sinulog.

Right at the opening bell both fighters started peppering each other with hard shots. Gejon stepped up his offense in the second round but wound up bleeding from a cut on his right eyebrow. They continued to stand toe to toe and trade hard punches for the succeeding rounds. Both fighters refused to wilt under pressure.

Midway into the fight, Castrodes was falling behind in quantity of punches but certainly not in quality as he dished out wicked punches to Gejon?s body and head. Blood continued to trickle from Gejon?s cut while a swelling developed on the right cheek of Castrodes.

In the 8th round Gejon landed a right hand bomb that had Castrodes reeling on the ropes. Gejon pummeled a dazed Castodes but the bell mercifully rang. The furious exchange of power punches continued for the next two rounds but both fighters refused to go down. This light flyweight bout was both close and electrifying. In the end Gejon was declared winner by split decision. The score cards read: 96-94 for Gejon, 96-94 for Castrodes, and 97-93 for Gejon.

In the other supporting main event bouts, superbantamweights Jomanz Omanz vs. Carlo Magale ended in a technical draw. Omanz could not keep the bull strong Magale at bay in the opening round but a clash of heads in the 2nd round resulted in a deep cut over Omanz?s left eyelid. The bout was stopped per advice of the ring physician at 2:51 of the 2nd.

James Bacon won an eight round unanimous decision over Jaypee Ignacio. Bacon was in offensive mode at the onset and punished Ignacio from pillar to post. Ignacio was tough enough to take Bacon?s punches and he had his best moment in the 4th where he managed to land a few hooks. But it was Bacon landing his blows at will the rest of the way. The scorecards read: 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74.

Roli Gasca beat Greg Mangan by unanimous decision in an eight round superflyweight contest. The scorecards: 77-75, 77-75 and 78-74. Rey Villar scored a knockdown in round one and won a unanimous decision over Erwin Pulvera in an entertaining flyweight brawl. The scorecards: 57-56, 57-56 and 58-55. In the first pro bout of the evening, Marjohn Macahilig got off the canvas in the first round and knocked down his opponent Melchor Abcede in the same round to score a TKO win.

The event was started with exciting amateur fights. It was held at the Gaisano Country Mall Carpark as part of the continuing Summit Fight Night Boxing Tour.
